What we should start doing for "Clean and Green" environment

I received a message stating In last ten years over 10 crore trees were cut for widening roads and highways but plantation during the same time is way too less.
What we can do to solve this problem which will make our environment cleaner and greener, will cool down ecosystem a bit in a shorter run and will have huge impact in a longer run.
1) Sowing seeds or planting trees doesn't cost much, it will just need bit of our time
2) Any kind of seeds of fruits, flower etc can be collected
3) Digging 2-3 inches on open spaces, roadside, footpaths, highways, societies will be sufficient to sow these seeds or plant trees
4) Watering them every two days would be sufficient. 5) Planting these in rainy season is even better, you don't need to water these. Rain would rescue us
6) We need to make sure that they are nurtured and grow big

What say guys, can we create small groups to bring change in the system and make it a national movement. more

The rivers, mountains and trees - any sacrilege will have consequences. The recent disaster - the deadly flash flood in a remote Indian Himalayan valley is clearly a fallout of climate change and in itself a tell-tale of our future. The anthropogenic impact includes the shrinking of glaciers in the Himalayas, one of the regions hardest hit by global warming. The biggest problem is the construction of hydroelectric plants across the vast network of Himalayan rivers, part of India's drive to boost renewable energy. These projects make other devastating flash floods more likely, while also increasing the risk of landslides. more
Rains would rescue us, yes, but also provided the plantations are open to rains. I have seen that there is the metro train viaducts over the road medians, having these plantations. During rains these fall in areas described as rain shadow. Plants seem dusty and parched. Delhi being primarily arid, this much thought should be given in during planning. Metro rail development authorities must consider these oversights. Better pave such areas, ensuring their cleanliness too, than give hopes about greening that dry out any way. more
Mr. Aggarwal, it can be anything like guava, mango, lemon, rose etc. The point is about starting this initiative, which plant will be best suited can be researched and taken forward more
Mr. Tayal, I really appreciate your points about factual data. In my city, max temp used to be 32-33 degrees 12-15 years which has risen to 40-42 degrees now. So you can't deny the fact that trees have not been planted in the same amount they have been cut. But my point is not that, it's mainly focused on plantation rather than what was the actual figure. We all know the temperature is rising and we should do something about it. In my opinion, Plantation can only help us to resolve the environmental dis balance. more
Dear Amit, that is the trouble with us Indians. We receive a message (often chain mailed or forwarded repeatedly) and take it to be the gospel truth. Please check the veracity of the tree plantation figures before rushing in to post a resource. This is not to say that we don't need to do more, but the basis should not be unverified rumours. more
