Underpass on Delhi-Noida link road for a signal-free ride

The 3km stretch from Noida Gate to Mahamaya flyover and the Noida-Greater Noida expressway connects the national capital to Greater Noida and the traffic coming from the DND flyway also merges on this route. A key route between Greater Noida and Delhi, more than 2 lakh vehicles using the route everyday, face snarls because of the traffic signals at the two entry and exit gates of the sector.

According to the new plan, to facilitate uninterrupted entry and exit of vehicles, an underpass-cum-U-turn will be constructed between the two sector gates. The detailed report for the project, estimated to cost about Rs 40 crore, is expected to be ready within a month. "Construction for this project will start by April. This will be modelled on the underpass located at AIIMS and we will use push-back technology so that traffic disruption is minimal," said Mohd Eshrat, in-charge of work circle-1, Noida.

According to officials, once the underpass is in place, all traffic signals will be removed and turns will be closed on the central carriageway of the stretch. "A traffic signal located at Noida's entry point will also be removed," said S C Mishra, in-charge of work circle-2. "An alternative road will be put in place within a month," he said.

The existing road from Chilla Regulator to New Ashok Nagar Metro station via Mayur Kunj will be repaired and made into a two-lane passage. This road will connect to another road in front of the Mayur Vihar district center. "An MoU has been signed with the UP irrigation department for the project, which will cost about Rs 1.5 crore. This road will be ready within a month more
