Maharashtra Govt 'Postpones' Rent to Landlords - Clarification Required

I have read in the news that the Maharashtrian Government has ordered that Landlords 'postpone' rent for three months.

Does "postpone" mean that at the end of the three months the tenant will still 'owe' back rent?

Say a tenant pays twenty thousand a month in rent so at the end of the three month period the tenant will then 'owe' sixty thousand rupees in back rent.

If this is so then this is hardly going to be much of a relief to the tenant who will be in debt sixty thousand rupees to the landlord who will obviously demand quick repayment which in these struggling times will certainly create havoc surely?

This initiative requires a lot of clarification for both tenants and landlords whose economic situation also requires to be considered. more

What is required - complete waiver ? There are Soc maintenance charges, Municipal Corpn Tax which owner has to bear. If owner has bank EMI, there will be additional burden of interest part for 3 months. Most of the tenants are unlikely to consider all this. They may have good amount of savings / other assets at native place / bank or market linked investments, but they may not dig into / liquidate those to pay rent using this situation. more
Off course it is temporary relief. If someone has taken a property for rent 20k per month he will also have the means to pay the rent or the tenant can shift to cheaper places and not cause inconvenience to the owner more
It's temporary relief more
This is for poor workers who are hand to mouth. It just postponement not waiver. The majority of the tenants will pay the rent as usual. more
Govt has announced this only for poor & hand to mouth people, & only & only for Housing tenants, But Even Commercial Tenants / Shop Tenants are taking disadvantage of This, & are delaying payments. Morever, Govt has taken only tenants in to consideration, & left Land lords surviving only & only on Rent income, are left on mercy of God. more
