Hawkers or Commuters which will have progress & hygiene?

Dear All,

Thane, Mumbai stations and footpaths are full of hawkers.

It is of course hawkers' right to have a living but at a cost of commuters experiencing full time crowd negotiation and their own hygiene and safety.

All roads, footpaths and stations can't be market places especially when a commuter is fighting to catch a train and reaching a place.

Also, hygiene is a major cause of concern and risk. This is because numerous commuters interact with numerous vendors causing spread of infections, it could be a major reason for the spread of diseases.

If the administration could take steps to move the entire hawkers market to a place away from these areas which will make the stations, foot paths crowd-free. There will not be traffic jams. The paces would be more safe and hygienic.

Hawkers and footpath market have become integral part of our life, without which common man thinks he won't survive. Apart from the reasons mentioned by Mr. Anantharaman, civic bodies will not regularise such spaces as it would amount to regularising unauthorised activities and secondly, civic staff and political party volunteers would not want this to happen as they will lose their hafta. Also even if you provide them separate place, these hawkers or someone would occupy same place. One time cleaning operation also needs follow up action otherwise things come back to square one. more
Hawkers need to be provided a designated area to operate from. That is the job of the state. Merely demolishing stalls and driving people away temporarily without a viable solution will never work. Patrons also need hawkers and hence facilities should be provided close by. more
....the third and most important aspect is public patronage, without which the two prior reasons would not exist. If we are responsible citizens ourselves, we should have lesser problems. more
Very true . It is the livelihood of hawkers to earn their livelihood by hawking, at foot paths, foot over bridges. These hawkers occupy any place ,which have more passersby. It is an offence, which hawkers, municipal administration, railway administration are well aware Following are the reasons. 1) Administration not provided vending license to vendors, hence hawkers occupy suitable place for their hawking. 2) Hawkers are doing their business, as responsible government staff are hand in glove with each other. 3) all foot overbridges are fully occupied by vendors, call girls, making genuine passers to negotiate to cover the distance. If respective department issues licences for vending on foot paths, and open places by earmarking places ,by charging foot path occupation fee,the department can earn revenue and pedestrians may have some relief. By incorporating disciplines, passers on foot path, other public trespassing area, one can walk freely. This is possible only when corruption free department staff is deployed for managing the situation All departments should have KHAIRNAR like officials should be employed. All the corrupt politicians should be kept away from the local administration. This comments are my view and without any prejudice. more
