Diesel Vehicles more than 10 years old banned in Delhi

Great move by National Green Tribunal. more

Death of diesel looms as carmakers accelerate to electric future. The world's biggest diesel engine factory in Tremery, eastern France, for example is undergoing a radical overhaul - it's switching to make electric motors. The shift is testament to a car industry in flux. Demand for diesel cars has slumped. Pollution scandal, coupled with tough new regulations fine carmakers for exceeding emissions limits and are pushing them to make more electric models. So, in the midst of a pandemic and with the level of consumer demand for battery-driven cars still uncertain, automakers are ditching diesel models and ramping up output of electric drives. For Tremery's 3,000 workers, and the wider car industry, however there's an added complication. Electric motors only have a fifth of the parts of a traditional diesel engine, putting a question mark over jobs. So there is a risk that fewer staff may be needed. But this can happen "quite naturally" as workers retire without being replaced. So one can expect that a slew of new electric models can potentially hit showrooms, which can be the encouraging signs that consumer interest in electric vehicles is picking up.However the limited availability of charging points and higher cost of many electrified models maynot account for sizeable percentage of total sales for electric vehicles. So What Can Drive E-Mobility in India? Way(s) are to be found to achieve maximum cost optimization, efficiency, and adequate charging facilities. Immediate deliberations might need to be arranged upon how the entire EV ecosystem, along with research bodies, can leverage technological advancements. more
There is a demand boost for a low-carbon economic recovery, which included moves to cut pollution from petrol and diesel engine driven vehicles. For example, a boom in electric vehicles (EV) in Germany could counterbalance some car industry gloom this year caused by COVID-19 lockdowns that closed showrooms and delayed vaccinations. EVs need robust battery. Battery technology is rapidly evolving – and manufacturers’ needs are evolving along with it. To achieve fast commercialization in this market environment, manufacturers must be able to optimize and maintain product quality – and for this, they need accurate data on production processes and battery materials, particularly those concerning electrode components. Need is to raise manufacturing potential of batteries with superior and consistent performance – it all starts with good quality electrode materials. Manufacturing high quality electrode materials, in turn, require an analytical toolkit that can comprehensively monitor every critical materials attribute. Delivery is also required for a unique set of physical, chemical and structural analysis solutions and expertise for leading battery components and cells producers, to accelerate battery cell and component development and optimize the battery manufacturing process. Based on high-quality, simply formatted data, solutions should evolve that can help find the answers needed to get the battery driven products commercialized quickly. more
Agree with that. Diesel is highly polluting, many times more than petrol, and on top of that diesel has been subsidised costing the taxpayer on import costs when petroleum continues being mostly imported for India's requirements. Automobile manufacturers cleverly gamed the difference thereby bringing out more private diesel vehicles that in other countries would be banned. A perfect looking car may be seen emitting black smoke which is diesel. Those who spend their lives on streets, owning cycles or using public transportation, pay with their lives, and medical bills attributable to breathing in pollutants. Not fair. Make polluter pay! more
For more than 10 years old vehicles, the better system could have been to ban them based on road worthiness and pollution level year to year check up later on till 15 years. more
Is it true.?. Very Good. The diesel vehicles are the main contributor to pollution in Delhi specially when they are in idlling state at red lights or on Toll plazas. In fact I am of the opinion that in order to reduce traffic and pollution in Delhi, cars with even and odd number of their last digit should ply on alternate days. This way people will be accustomed to use of public transport also. more
