Chennai Central (MAS)

Chennai Central is over-crowded though earlier Moore market was demolished and the station was expanded. Railway Engineering can think of going for multilayers to create enough space for the passengers waiting to board the train. RPF is not to be seen any where near the General Compartments to regulate the entry of passengers. Otherwise Railways can think of terminating certain trains at Avadi or wherever Railways is having sufficient land for expanding the stations. The platform management at Chennai Central is worst since almost all the incoming trains are halted at Basin Bridge for 15 to 30 minutes.

The Chennai Central does not meet the quality expectations of being the Junction of a metro city or Souther Railway Headquarters.
1. The station space is always congested.
Suggestions:
More waiting space to be created,
Number of platforms need to be increased so that the number of passengers waiting at a given point of time will be lesser,
Platform space to be effectively utilized by providing more waiting seats, if required even multi-level waiting seat rooms can be constructed at the platform.
2. Toilets are not maintained with good quality.
3. Poor connectivity to Park station towards tambaram, Park Station towards Velachery, and bus stand (towards Koyambedu). Pedestrians along with their luggage, need to compete through the hassle of vehicles traffic to reach these places. Need sky walk connectivity with luggage trolley movement support to these places.
4. Parking facility is really having very low space compared to the huge crowd. Also, the current parking facility is not in good condition.(water logging during rainy season)
5. The coach alignment of a train at the specific platform to be displayed in digital form.
6. Station Map, direction boards to places / shops within the station is not available.
7. Map depicting the places around Central Station (Park station, Bus stand, Parrys, etc) , Direction boards to Park station towards tambaram, Park Station towards Velachery, Bus stop towards Koyambedu, Bus stop towards Parrys are not available.

1. Cleanliness needs to be improved
2. platforms needs to be free of hawkers .
3. Foot over bridge from Park Station road to Central Station is needed urgently , people traveling from park station to central station finds great difficulty in crossing road .

1. Toliets are not maintained properly and the number of toilets available is also not enough for the number of people who use the station
2. Resting places are not enough more needs to be done
3. Number of platforms is not enough to cater to the amount of railway traffic handled leading to delays. Improvement needed in this
4. Self use trolleys need to be made available for passengers
5. Parking facility is not enough.
6. Entry/Exit to the station is always congested.

The platform space nearer to the end of platform is many a time filled with parcel material. Most of the time while boarding the train and sometimes even on alighting and walking to the exit, one has to worm through these parcel mounts on the platform. It may be that the parcel vans are nearer to the start of the platform for ease of loading. In a station like Chennai where one can enter the platform only from one end, this poses a problem for travellers. Some solution or alternative has to be made by the authorities.
