Sir,

In this list only few stations are given. Tiruvallur is major station which is always neglected. Problems in Tiruvallur station is given below since this station is not appearing in this Rate the station list.
Amenities required at Tiruvallur Railway station

Tiruvallur is an important Railway station in Chennai Division, Southern Railway. In a day 160 local trains and 20 express trains are handled in this station. Around one lakh passengers are using this station in a day and booking office collection is close to one Crore in a month and PRS counter collection is around 50 lakhs in a month. Such an important station, required amenities are not provided. The following are the amenities to be carried out at Tiruvallur Railway station. Sufficient fund are to be allotted to carry out the following amenities at Tiruvallur Railway station.
Conventional Platform shelters in all the platforms.
At Tiruvallur station Platform No.1 all express trains bound to Chennai Central are stopping. EMU trains are also handled some times. In this platform shelter is provided to cover only one coach of express trains. The passengers got down from the express trains are not having shelter during rainy season and summer seasons. Conventional shelter is to be provided to cover at least 12 coaches of express trains in Tiruvallur station Platform No.1
Similarly in other platforms, local and express trains are handled. At many places mini shelters are provided instead of conventional shelters. Tiruvallur station is handling very high volume of passengers. In future, 12 car EMU trains going to be introduced. Mini shelters are suitable for station where less amount passengers are handled. Considering the passengers volume, conventional platform shelters are to be provided in all 6 platforms to cover 12 coaches of trains. Mini shelters are to be replaced with conventional shelters.
Broken and damaged platform gripper tiles.

In platform No.2, 3, 4&5 gripper tiles are provided in platform edges. In most of the places the tiles are broken and damaged. The cement mortar has also come out. Sometimes passengers are falling down because of the poor mortar and broken tiles. The broken tiles are to be replaced at the earliest.

Water stagnation in platforms.

In Island paltform2&3 and 4&5, the platform is not levelled properly. So, good amount of water is stagnating in platform during rainy seasons. Passengers are finding it difficult to walk in the platform during rainy season. So, platforms are to be levelled in such a way that water is not stagnating in platforms.

Electronic clock in all the platforms.

In Tiruvallur station, a mechanical clock was provided in Platform No.3 around 25 years back. Now this clock is not available. Passengers are finding it difficult to know the official railway time. Electronic clock is to be provided in all the platforms.

Electronic Coach Composition board.

At Tiruvallur station coach composition board is provided in Paltform No.3. This is manually written. If coach composition is changed in trains, this board will not reflect the same. Most of the express trains are stopping for only one minute at Tiruvallur. To know the position and composition of the express trains, an electronic coach composition board is to be provided in Platform No.2 and4.

Electronic coach guidance display.

Passengers are finding it difficult to find out the coach position before the train arrives in the platform. Since the trains are stopping for only one minute, the train starts even before the passengers find out their coach and board the trains. For the convenience of passengers, electronic coach guidance display is to be provided in Platform No 2 and 4. Now coach guidance display is provided only in Platform No.2. Because, express trains are received in Platform No.4 at some times.

Electronic arrival and departure display.

In Tiruvallur station, trains are operated in all 6 platforms. Passengers are finding it difficult to know the train arrival time and platform number. So, electronic arrival and departure display is to be provided in all 6 platforms, PRS counter and near the booking counter. Recently single line display is provided in Platform No.1 to 5. In platform No.6 also this display is to be provided. In foot over bridge also this display board is to be provided. Now electronic display is provided in western end of the platform. At middle of each platform also (near motorman cabin of EMU train) electronic display is to be provided in all 6 platforms.

POET machine at PRS Counter.

Passengers operated enquiry terminal (POET) provided at PRS counter was removed due to failure 3 years back and the same is not yet provided. Passengers are finding it difficult to know the accommodation availability and PNR status of the ticket. They are depending upon the PRS counter staff and their work is also disturbed. A fresh POET with colour monitor is to be installed at Tiruvallur which show the details of Accommodation availability, PNR Status, Fare details, train running information, Coach composition of express trains etc.,

Reservation chart for express trains.

At Tiruvallur station Kaveri Express, Managlore Mail, Yercaud Express and Mumbai mail are stopping during night time and many passengers are boarding in these trains. Waiting list passengers are finding it difficult to know the PNR status of their ticket. For the benefit of reserved passengers and waiting list passengers, reservation chart for all express trains are to be displayed. After 20.00HRS reservation centre is also closed. So passengers are finding it difficult to know the status of waiting list during night time.

Shelter for foot over bridge.

At Tiruvallur railway station foot over bridge is provided connecting all 6 platforms. But shelter is not provided for the foot over bridge. During summer and rainy season passengers are finding it very difficult to walk in the foot over bridge. Considering the difficulty faced by the passengers, shelter is to be provided in the foot over bridge.

Dust bin in all platforms.

At Tiruvallur station platforms are not maintained properly. Garbage and dust noticed in the platforms and passengers are finding it difficult to sit in the platforms. Sometimes bad smell is coming from the garbage. Dust bins are not provided in the platforms. So, passengers throw the waste materials in the platform. Dust bins atleast at 2 palces are to be provided in all the platforms.

Platforms are not cleaned in regular intervals. It seems that number of cleaning staff is not sufficient at Tiruvallur station. Sufficient number of staff is to be allotted for Tiuruvallur like Arakkonam and Katpadi for proper cleaning of station and platforms.



Trolley path connecting all 6 platforms.

Trolley path was provided at Tiruvallur station western end 10 years back and the same was damaged and now it is totally dismantled. Differently abled passengers are finding difficult to change the platforms. Since Tiruvallur is a suburban terminus, many passengers are changing from Express trains to local trains and vice versa. Fresh trolley path is to be provided at Tiruvallur connecting all 6 platforms to enable easy movement for differently abled passengers.

Express and EMU trains time table in all the platforms and near booking counter.

At TIruvallur station, official EMU & Express trains time table is not at all available. EMU trains time table is provided in Platform No. 2&3. In platform No.1,4,5 and 6, time table is not available. Near the booking counter also time table is not available. Latest timings are not provided. Now advertisers are providing local train time tables. But these are getting damaged easily and these time tables are having errors.

Booking counter in Southern side of the station.

The booking counter in Southern side of the counter is closed by railway administration due to staff shortage during May 2012. Till date this counter is not opened. Almost 50% of passengers are coming from the southern side of the station. Chennai, Sriperumpudur and Tiruvallur road junction is situated in South side of Tiruvallur station. Passengers who are changing over from road to rail are coming from South side of the station. So, the booking counter in the Southern side of the Tiruvallur is to be opened at the earliest and to be operated round the clock.

Functioning of 2 PRS counters at Tiruvallur.

At Tiruvallur station PRS building is provided with 2 counters. But only one counter is functioning. Passengers are finding it very difficult to get Tatkal tickets since only one counter is functioning. The number of passengers booking the reservation ticket is also increasing day by day at Tiruvallur. Considering the patronage, staffs is to be provided in the second counter also.

Aavin booth waste management system.

One Aavin milk booth is functioning in Platform No. 4 & 5 (Island platform) and lot of waste cups are generated from this Aavin milk booth. The waste cups are thrown near the platform No.6 and in railway track (Road 5 and road 6). Proper waste management system is to be introduced to avoid accumulation of waste cups at Tiruvallur railway station.

Subway at Tiruvallur Railway station.

The north and south side of the Tiruvallur Railway station is thickly populated and many people are crossing from north to south side of the station. Many of the passengers are crossing the railway track in dangerous way. 25 years back a level crossing was there near the platform at Tiruvallur station. Now, the level crossing is removed and public is forced to cross the railway track. Even death funeral is crossing the railway lines in a dangers way. This is because of removal of level crossing. Considering the difficulty faced by the public, a subway is to be provided where the level crossing was situated near Tiruvallur Railway station connecting all 6 platforms.

More Number of benches in platforms.

At Tiruvallur station, the number of benches is less in the platforms. Many passengers are forced to stand in the platforms till the arrival of trains. The most affected are ladies, children and aged passengers who are waiting for express trains with heavy luggage. So, sufficient number of benches is to be provided in all the platforms.

Refreshment stalls in Tiruvallur railway station platform.

A refreshment stall was functioning at Tiruvallur Railway station Platform No. 2&3 (Island platform) 15 years back. Now the refreshment stall building is demolished. Since very large amount of passengers are utilising Tiruvallur station, a refreshment stall is to be provided in the station platform. This will be very useful for the passengers.

Poor maintenance of water points at Tiruvallur.

The water points are not maintained properly at Tiruvallur. The place around the water point is not clean. Passengers are hesitating to take water from this water points. The cleaning of water tank is also not done periodically. The quality of water itself tells that tanks are not cleaned at regular intervals. The last date of cleaning is also to be mentioned near the water points so that passengers will confidently drink the water without any hesitation. More importance is to be given for passenger’s health.

Cleaning of EMU rakes stabled at Tiruvallur railway station during night time.

At Tiruvallur Railway station 4 EMU rakes are stationed during night time. Most of the time, the EMU rakes are not cleaned during night time. In morning time the trains are leaving the station with full of previous day accumulated dust. Proper cleaning of EMU rakes is to be ensured at Tiruvallur.

Cell phone/laptop charging point at Tiruvallur.

In Salem division, cell phone charging point is provided in most of the important stations. This is very useful for the long distance passengers. Similarly cell phone charging point is to be provided in Tiruvallur station also. Charging points may be provided in Platform No. 1 to 5.

Public announcement of train arrival and departure at Tiruvallur Railway station.

At Tiruvallur railway station automated public announcement system is provided. But the announcement is not done properly. The announcement is made only in platform No.2,3,4 &5 only The public announcement is not done in Platform No.1 and 6. Trains are handled in all 6 platforms. For the passenger’s convenience, public announcement is to be in all the platforms. Sufficient number of speakers are to be provided in all the platforms.

Two minutes halt for Express and EMU trains at Tiruvallur.

Tiruvallur is a major station in Chennai to Arakkonam suburban section. Many passengers are traveling from Chennai to Tiruvallur and from Tiruvallur more number of passengers is boarding for Arakkonam trains also. Tiruvallur is a highly patronised station in Chennai – Arakkonam suburban station. But EMU trains are provided with 30 seconds halt at Tiruvallur like other intermediate suburban station. Passenger’s crowd is more during morning and evening peak hours. Considering the heavy patronage at Tiruvallur 2 minutes halt is to the provided at Tiruvallur for Arakkonam bound local trains. Similarly for express trains also 2 minutes halt is to be provided at Tiruvallur instead of one minute halt. It is to be noted that EMU trains bound for Tiruttani are stopping at Arakkonam for 2 minutes. Similar arrangement is to be made in Tiruvallur also.

Announcement in 10 minutes in advance for express trains.

At Tiruvallur station, Express trains going towards Arakkonam are handled in Platform No.2, 3, 4 and 5 according to the operational convenience. Like other station, there is no nominated platform for arrival of express trains at Tiruvallur. Sometimes, trains are arriving in Platform No.2 and sometimes trains are arriving in Platform No.4. The announcement is made at eleventh hour. In that condition passengers are finding it difficult to change from Platform No.4 to Platform No.2. Sometimes passengers missed the train. For the convenience of passengers, instruction is to be given to station staff, to announce the arrival of express trains and the platform number in ten minutes advance.

Tiruvallur to be upgraded as “A “class Railway station.

Tiruvallur is a suburban terminus, headquarters, pilgrim centre and industrial town. Proposed green field airport will be just 18 KM from Tiruvallur railway station and Tiruvallur railway station will be serving station for the proposed airport. Chennai’s important industrial hub Sriperumpudur is very near to Tiruvallur station and for this industrial hub also, Tiruvallur is a serving station. Considering the importance of Tiruvallur town, Tiruvallur railway station is to be upgraded as "A" class Railway station and required funds are to be allotted for improving the amenities at Tiruvallur Railway station.

Additional Foot over bridge at Tiruvallur Railway station.

Tiruvallur is a suburban terminus and many passengers are changing over from platforms to board express train and vice versa. Now the FOB is situated in western end. The passengers who are getting down at the eastern end of the platform are forced to walk up to western end of the platform to change over the platform. To reduce the difficulty faced by such express to EMU changeover passengers, new Foot over bridge is to be constructed at eastern end of Platform No.6 and the same should connect all the platforms.

It is nice that there are good many eating out lets in Chennai station comparing other stations in India,but there are ample scope for improvemnet
