Why Tamil Nadu government object to Tuticorin ground water report ?

It is surprising that Tamil Nadu government has objected to the study report of the Central Ground Water Board on the ground water contamination in Thoothukudi, where the report has concluded that “ it can’t be stated that Sterlite industry is the only cause of pollution”.

Tamil Nadu government says that Tamil Nadu Pollution control Board has concluded earlier that pollution caused by Sterlite copper melting plant has gravely affected the health and safety of the residents .

The matter is now before the appellate Authority, National Green Tribunal, which would give the judgement.

Obviously, the judgement would be based on technicalities and data. While the appellate authority would look into the data of Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, it would be appropriate if it also would look into the data submitted by Central Ground Water Board.

All that is needed fair and reasonable judgement based on real facts collected from various sources.

The contention of Tamil Nadu government that the report of Central Ground Water Board would aggravate the situation in Tuticorin is absolutely untenable as such issues cannot be decided on the basis of agitation in streets.

pollution exists in many ways.Usage of fossil fuel in vehicles, any factory and destroying water ways and building hoses on them etc.We have to first ban the use of two wheelers and cars first before banning the factories giving employment to many.Enforcement wing should be corrupt free to get safe results more

WE the public are surrounded by attractive offers from the traders on one side , and glib talk from the ruling side and always opposing ideas . Under theses situations we should be together to analyse the situation before siding any one . First of all CGWB report says ," " it can't be stated that Sterlite Industry was the only cause of the Pollution . That means it is one of the parties causing pollution . Here we will have to wait till they find the other ones causing pollution to dislodge them . In this case the attached clip will throw light on the issue of objecting to the Report of the CGWB from the water resource Ministry . more
Yes, shutting down Industry may not be the only option. If the company follows strict measures for the treatment of effluent and ensures pollution free environment around, local minority agitation has to be handled differently by the TN Govt. Strikes by unwanted eliments (wh9o have no work to do) have become everyday affair with no formidable reason. If the same situation continues many industries will have to be shut down There are hundreds of Giant mfg. industries have been closed in past 25 years. more
MR. NAV- Are you supporting Sterilite or Opposing the Tamilnadu Government opposing the report of CGWB. Let us wait and watch everything as this is subjudice. Till the disposal by NGWT no comments please. more
I hope the concerned Judicial Authority who are ceased of this issue right now also will think how our Country is affected by this wrong decision of TN Govt. and before coming to any adverse decision conduct detailed study about the groundwater condition even just around the unit and see whether it is recent (if at all there is any). I am of the personal opinion it should not be closed. Years back there were hue and cry at Ambur and Vaniyambadi area about the tannery effluents problem and why these politicians are silent about it. Is it that they had their pie ? more
