FREEBIE IS NOT IN NATIONAL INTEREST

Providing free education and free medical services for poor people are legitimate welfare measures of the government. But, providing television sets, pressure cookers, cycles, mixie, grinder, fan etc. free of charge to the people before the election constitute freebie, which are used as tools by the corrupt politicians to hoodwink the poor people and win elections.

These politicians are self centred people who do not care about the consequences of offering such freebie on mass scale costing several thousand crore of rupees to the national economy and how it harm the work culture in the country. To the extent that huge money is spent on offering freebie , the money would be less for implementing important development projects and force the government to take huge loan and resort to severe deficit financing. Consequently the taxes are raised and it become a vicious cycle.

I congratulate the Prime Minister Modi for expressing his concern about the freebie culture and a national movement is necessary to discredit the politicians using freebie as tool to win elections.

Freebies talk Modi plan to divert corporate loan waiver issue: MP There is no second thought that BJP is favouring only 60 to 70 large corporates, which is evident from the growth of Adani, who was an unknown person during Congress regime. his is not a sudden development, but a planned debate. When the issue of waiver of Rs 12 lakh crore to large corporates started surfacing, Modi planted a debate on freebies, which was taken up by the Judiciary. What was the urgent need for former Chief Justice NV Ramana to take this case before one week of his retirement when several prominent cases such as case related to Article 370, CAA, EWS and so on are pending for more than one year. In this case, the Judiciary’s intention is to help the Centre and Modi. For people who have mixer grinders and TVs in their houses may look it upon like freebies, but for people who do not have them, they are development schemes. Not everyone in the country could afford to buy them for their homes. The country is not the same for everyone as an industrialist can easily get a loan of Rs 10,000 crore, but ordinary people cannot even get Rs 10,000 as loan. To address this discrimination such welfare measures are implemented by the government. On Fri, Aug 12, 2022 at 2:42 PM N.S. Venkataraman < support@localcirclesmail.com> wrote: > more

Manuel Aaron: Does not the offer of Rs 15 lacs to every household in 2014 constitute a freebee? more
We have seen over the last few decades that politicians offer freebees to entice voters and come to power. Citing the Hon. Prime Minister, several lakh crores enough to pay Rs.15 lakhs to each citizen has been stashed away abroad by Politicians and businessmen. An equal amount or more lies within India. My view is that the present dispensation at the centre must go ahead with a law to ban mindless freebees or ask the political parties to present a proper paper to elaborate the sources and financial implications of such freebees. more
