CHIEF MINISTER AS CHANCELLOR !

The resolution passed by Tamil Nadu Assembly to withdraw the powers of Governor to act as Chancellor of the Universities and probably to make the Chief Minister as the Chancellor would certainly lead to politicalisation of University administration in the state. This is the most retrograde step that should have been avoided.

The Chief Minister has not cared to ascertain the views of the educationists in the state before taking such what appears to be a very bad decision. This is a serious adverse blow for the university students in the state , as it may impact the standards of education and discipline in Universities.

Given the standards of most politicians in the state, making politician as the Chancellor is like giving garland in the hands of a monkey.

An administrator is viewed as efficient and good depending upon the way and quickness with which he disposes files. The administaration of a state can be better without a CEO who knows only keeping files pending an indicator of indecisions. Either perform or quit is what people think. Be it a Governor or a Politician. more
Governor"s other decisions should not be made basis of removing him from the Chancellor post. Knowing Tamil Nadu politicians the chances of party sympathisers being appointed as Vice Chancellors cannot be ruled out. more
The point is, governors have a tendency to behave like agents of the Union Government in total disregard of the needs of individual States. more
