When every project stopped, how can Tamil Nadu progress ?

A few years back, proposal for Rs.2000 crore Titanium dioxide project was proposed by Tata group at Tuticorin and it was stopped by agitators. Koodankulam Nuclear power project was delayed by several years due to protest by agitators and now it is working well proving the agitators wrong.

Gas pipeline project was stopped by agitators in Coimbatore Salem region which can lead to investment of around Rs.15,000 crore . Proposal for large Petrochemical hub in Cuddalore region is being opposed. Agitators now want Rs. 4000 crore Nutrino project at Theni to be stopped. Neduvasal exploration project has now been stopped by agitators.

The latest is that Sterilite plant at Tuticorin employing more than 1000 people directly and around 1000 contract workers and several more indirect employment is being opposed and agitators want the project to be scrapped.

Everyone of the above projects have been cleared by environmental authorities after scrutiny but in Tamil Nadu , it seems the agitators are the ultimate decision takers.

Tamil Nadu is now not even in the tenth rank amongst the states with regard to industrial investments. Once it was in the first place.

Can Tamil Nadu progress in such circumstances ?

IT IS REALLY FUNNY TO NOTE THAT BOTH THE DRAVIDIAN PARTIES ARE STATED TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR STERLIT INDUSTRY TO COME UP IN TAMILNADU , WHEN MANY OTHER STATES REJECTED, AND NOW THE SAME GROUP AGITATING AGAINST AND CLAIMING AS THE VOICE OF PEOPLE. THE TRUE PICTURE IS THE MAIN ARCHITECT OF BOTH THE DRAVIDIAN PARTIES JUST MESMERIZED THE PUBLIC WITH ALL SORT OF FREEBIES SUCCESSFULLY CHANGED A SECTION OF PUBLIC LAZY AND ADDICT TO ALCOHOL AND WHEN BOTH THE ARCHITECT NOT IN THE PICTURE, ALL FEELINGS/SENTIMENTS STARTED EMERGING TOWARDS ENVIRONMENT, EDUCATION, AGRICULTURE, EMPLOYMENT ETC. WHICH ALREADY GOT RUINED TO THE POSSIBLE EXTEND POSSIBLE. WHEN THIS IS THE STATUS IN TAMILNADY, FROM CENTRAL RULING IN THE LAST 2-3 YEARS,WE GET EVERY DAY NEWS ABOUT BANK FRAUD, MONEY LAUNDERING,ETC. WHICH IN TOTAL MAY EXCEED THE AMOUNT SEIZED IN LAST 6 DECADES, A FEW LAKH CRORES OF RUPEES. EVERY POLITICAL PARTY TRYING TO WIN AT THE COST OF PUBLIC, AS A REAL CARETAKERS BUT ONLY AFTER CAUSING ALL SORT OF DAMAGE INHERENTLY BY ONE OR BY OTHER. ONE HAS TO REALLY ANALYSE WHY SUCH THINGS HAPPEN MORE COMPARED TO ANY OTHER DEVELOPING/ DEVELOPED COUNTRY AND WHERE WE ARE WRONG VERY BASICALLY, ALLOWING SUCH RUTHLESS SELFISH POLITICIANS TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF SUCH AREAS. more
Yes. They will do anything for money.Go to the Govt run hospitals and see if patients get right medicine first. You will understand only when it pains. more
It is all cheap & dirty politics. Let all these agitators for saying a NO to all these projects list out the technical & commercial reasons in detail, without simply agitating. I am sure, 95% of the agitators do not know anything about the projects and they are all agitating only because they have been prompted. It is the duty of the state government to meet them and ask for the reasons and explain them details and then decide to go ahead or cancel the project. In case of real problems, remove the bad aspects and start the project. Thank GOD, until 1967, TN had major projects like ICF, BHEL, AVADI, NLC, PORTS, Refineries, Petrochemicals, etc and lots of Factories along with supporting industries as well as umpteen number of small and big dams. If they are to be started now, none of them would be implemented. Onle the other states are benefited cashing on such negative minded agitation. Look at the development of Railways in TN as compared to neighboring Kerala, Karnataka & Andhra. It is in a pitiable stage because of the politicians benami bus lobby. If the common man is not alert and is interested only in money for votes, biriyani and quarter and go behind dirty politicians, TN sliding down for the past fifty years will be totally lost. I wish someone translates this in Tamizh and pass on to all Tamizh dailies and news magazines for an awareness to the common man. more
Dear Mr. N S V, In Tamil nadu we never go with national stream and greatly depend on Regional politics. If the company whoever want to start if they are willing to pay bribe to ruling, opposition parties these issues will never come. Even if citizen of Tamil peoples will cost their life provided the new entrant is willing to cover these political parties they would sanction within a second. It is all syndicate which works in Tamil Nadu. Don't regret for all these sir. more
We need to understand the other side of these investments. There may be a hidden agenda which the govt may promote. For example, neduvasal exploration will expand geometrically encompassing the entire Cauvery delta. This expansion will happen if they find or do not find hydrocarbons. This exploration may be a disguise to prevent and discourage agriculture to enable Cauvery waters are fully utilized by Karnataka. As BJP floats lies and cons innocent people, this exploration may be a con job. After all, the maximum output of hydrocarbon from this belt will not meet more than 10% of Indian requirement. Why destroy agriculture and its dependents for a economically weak solution? more
Definitely, your concern is right. But Industries is required for progress and development but at the end, it should uplift the wealth of the common man. Somehow every Citizen should get some benefit either direct or indirect. No way it should be allowed to affect the people. Here we need the support of the common man. The government should first ensure that people directly affected should be compensated suitably or even more than what they sacrifice/lost. Also, people should stop agitation instead they should watch like watch dog how the Company is ensuring compliance with the environmental laws and if there is any violation then the company should be punished suitably. more
