WHAT AFTER STERLITE CLOSURE ?

Bowing to the pressure and violent protests by the anti Sterlite protestors, government of Tamil Nadu has announced that the Sterlite plant would be closed, even as the matter is pending in the court.

What would Tamil Nadu Pollution control Board and government of Tamil Nadu do ,if the court verdict would go in favour of Sterlite ? The court’s decision would not be based on intensity of the protest or the vague allegations regarding the occurrence of cancer and asthma. The court would demand reliable data and proof.

There are four sulphuric acid plants in Tamil Nadu including one in Tuticorin belonging to Green Star Fertilisers. But, Sterlite alone is targeted.

There are three copper plants in India including Sterlite plant in Tuticorin. But, Sterlite alone is targeted.

Sterlite agitation and government’s order for closure has certainly created huge fear amongst those setting up new industries and infra structure projects and operating existing ones in Tamil Nadu, as a group of agitators can always force closure of the units under one pretext or the other.
