WATER MANAGEMENT IN TN

Very soon we are set to face a severe water shortage in TN. Out of several rivers in TN, 7 rivers are listed as major rivers. But,probably, only one out of these originate in TN and flow into sea. Sadly all these major rivers are dry and hold water only for a few days in a year. So there is an utmost need to create more water bodies and save available water for use. Some suggestions;
1. Water harvesting must be done on war footing to improve the ground water levels. It must be made compulsory and monitored seriously.
2. All lakes and ponds, including temple ponds must be desilted periodically.
3. Why not consider interlinking of all the rivers within TN as a first step if it is feasible in terms of water resources?.
4. We must also consider that we can no longer depend on other states for water. All said and done their water requirement is also increasing phenominally. In times of good rainfall, there is no problem, but in times of failure of monsoon it will be a great crunch.
5. TN has a long coast. More desalination units must be set up along the coast. We have plenty of sunshine which can be used as an energy source for desalination.
6. There must be enough incentives provided by the State & Central Government to make production of Solar Energy a household venture. We can then use our excess energy to get water from neighbouring states.
7 Ways must be found to get fresh water using sea water even by pumping sea water to the interior lands.
Let us make TN water sufficient!!! more

We are talking of saving the water. Right. we should. But it will never be 100%. An example has any one really worked on or got involved or watched carefully from the kitchen of an individual how much water is left un attended and wasted in one way? Same way are we really trying to save water? we can say definitely unless the real problem persists or affect us individually. people are educated enough but we hardly follow what is nearly practical? We are going face severe shortage of water in many cities of India. We are talking about rainwater harvesting and preparing for it. It is a must and necessary. When there is no rain where the harvesting can obtain? Many of the residents even now wash the floor/ varandha of the apartments and we can see water dripping/ flowing through the drain. Wastage? If government is really interested in solving the water scarcity they should immediately go in for joining all the rivers of India irrespective of the states and give facility to save the nation with water. To some extent the shortage can be solved. On other hand the Swatch Bharat. Good move. Made many toilets in and around many parts of Indian states. When there is no water to clean and maintain what is the point in building toilets? Poor cleanliness shall not only develop disease and may tend to be some epidemic in certain disease. Has any one went over the facility given to some of the comfort stations attached to some of the temples/ general public facility/ schools/ say normal govt offices and even in some of private office buildings, hotels? etc. Has any one can do their nature call in real sense of hygiene. It is time to open our eyes and educate the owners?? or the public? I have few points to write but keep it for next time and give a trial for critics? Regards, Prabhakaran more
At the filling point and water spilling during tanker lorry taking water to supply customers, if we stop wastage that will be a bigger saving more
People must have awareness in water harvesting and optimum utilization of water. We must do ourselves something to preserve our lakes and water bodies so that our generation may have pure water for our needs. more
