VIP culture in Indian Railways - Inputs on Issues

Dear Friends:

Thanks for your participation on various priorities and subjects to improve the State of Railways.

Last month one of the articles on Railways covering our circle touched on rationalization of VIP Quotas in Railways.

“The Railways has earmarked about 60,000 berths every day for the emergency quota, which account for about 5 per cent of the total reserved berths. Of this, 40 per cent capacity gets used on an average,” See the full article here: http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/industry-and-economy/logistics/online-poll-calls-for-rationalising-vip-quota-for-railway-berths/article6288398.ece

Request all members to share their issues related to VIP culture in Indian Railways including ticketing quota, use of other related facilities and anything else.

Once we have listed the issues, we will work on Root Causes and Solutions submitting to Railways Ministry what they need to do to address the VIP culture in Indian Railways

Thanks and I look forward to your inputs.

Who are the VIPs? Basically the political leaders. It is a concept that they work for the country and people, and that is why they should not be waiting for railway tickets, and that is why the VIP quota has its meaning. However, the reality is far away from that. In most cases, the VIP quota seats are captured (managed) by other influencial people. I have doubt, whether these so called VIPs, who are supposed to be representative of people, do really know about how poor people travel in trains. I have doubt whether they have really ever peeped into the second class compartments, toilets, etc. They just do not know how general people travel, and tolerate all the inconveniences. Therefore, I think this VIP quota system should be completely abolished. In that case 60000 more seats/berths would ensured everyday for the people who really need them. Let the so called VIPs feel how people travel in our country, and that will be a way to make them more concerned about people's interest. more
hardly vip himself travels his letter is used for black marketing as they themselves travel by air mostly. all vip should also be treated as normal passengers . if they cant plan their travel whats sense of being called VIP . definition of VIP should be redefined and VIP Quota shall be reduced to 1 % . more
this vip culture has only been a source of development of coruption and nothing else. Has to be abolished immediately more
