Sir, First avoid commenting a issue sitting from Chennai, kindly visit Tuticorin and value the situation first and put comment. Can you allow garbage dumping yard or hazarded units near your residence. The issue started on the expansion of the unit very near to residential hubs. You people can justify Union Carbide also. This country witnessed and paid a huge lives in many incidences. The reason people like you in the top administration always support government and also our authorities not following any norms. Nothng in the world comes only with positives. Negatives to be managed if we need progress. If Sterlite has installed an effective method to deal with the negatives in the form of pollution, we should not grumble. Industrial accidents are part of progress. Even in an advanced country like Japan an atomic power plant suffered after tsunami. On this count Japan did not shut down the plant. It revamped it. India is a country where we want progress with no participation, freedom without commitment and wealth without any risk. We need to strengthen the pollution management if it is lax. You may want a pollution audit to be done by an international agency through court order. This will be a reasonable approach rather than wanting to shut down the plant. more
Dear, Here no question arise of positive or negative, You people won't admit the poor one's pain. Yesterday 9th April 2018. Central Pollution Control, stated that they are not issued any approval for expansion so far. Don't support official. more
It is always the same bait. Development and growth. At whose cost? From where the copper ore is coming and where does the finished products goes. Wherever land, water and cheap labor is available inspite of hazards factory and production happens, don't bother let that place turn into a hell latter, till then make money. Can you cook a meal for 100-200 people in a kitchen in a house, how messy it will be. Then why do they produce beyond the permitted capacity: Make full utility of the capital investments already made before any shutdown. The government should be the watchdog and ensure prevention. In 1990 some 90 kids were burnt alive in their class room. Forest fire is not a new phenomena but then how and why should 22 youth got burnt and lost in an adventure trip that became fatal if not a nightmare, to narrate the story. In the Oil spill that happened in Chennai coastal area due to collusion of ships that led to loss of marine life. We used the immediately available technology of bare hands and buckets to clear the oil that was floating while nobody revealed the nature of the oil. We can take sides in a debate but the real pain will be felt only when it pinches us. more
Most of what you have sighted is not inherent to copper project but to any industry as they are all accidents and can happen in any industry if proper care is not taken. Instead of punishing those responsible for the carelessness because of which these accident took place, you cannot say the specific industry should not function. That way no copper industry should function in our country or the world. But these are functioning without any of these problems in our country and outside. Why should TN and its people suffer because of negligence and corruption rampant in TN? 1 other(s) found it helpful Yesterday more
The prime culprits is the enforcement officials of the government. more
We must take the middle path by managing Sterilite company, after taking all inputs by local community into consideration.First and foremost Safety must be top top priority. All these blasts must be investigated and proper check and 100% preventive maintenance adapted. Second, at least 15% of the profit must go to community development. Good Sterilite English medium primary schools of Kendriya Vidyalaya standard upto Plus 2 level. Third, regional quota for Tuticorn residents in medical MBBS Courses in all universities of TAMILNADU. Finally environment development, pollution control and greening project in Tuticorn. And a Sterilite sports complex and training centre in selected sports( no cricket ) for Tuticorn. more
