Railway Protection Force (RPF) Functioning - Key Issues

1. Travellers are afraid that RPF will catch them for no reason
2. RPF is very lazy
3. Corruption runs into the ranks
4. They collect bribes from people selling inside trains
5. RPF is nowhere to be seen when required
6. They don't prevent unauthorized people from entering coaches
7. They are unable to prevent most thefts
8. Some RPF jawans board the train and sleep peacefully
9. RPF is not well equipped to handle situation in a moving train
10. They use their powers to threaten passengers
11. RPF soldiers don’t even patrol the platform
12. Train robberies happen even after RPF being present
13. They capture seats in the general compartment and ask the public to stand
14. There is no RPF helpline number which could be called in case of emergency
15. The number of RPF personnel deployed and visible is small as compared to the need more

RPF is OK so long crowds do not enter in bulk.Like on DEEPAWALI or CHHATH or POLICE PXAMS hoards of people forcibly enter reserved coaches and occupy the reserved seats. That time RPF & TTE become invisible throughout the journey and passangers are left at mercy of those goons who pass dirty comments on woman and use abusive language. It is all jungle RAJ so why we have RPF in trains? In the time of need they are no where to be seen!! more  
RPF call centre should be set up. and contact number should be provided on the ticket before hand in coordination with RPF. provide a central call centre number which will directly communicate with the on duty personnel on train in times of emergency like looting of train while running or any other untoward incident. the passengers should have ready access to call centre number of the RPF which can be called by mobile phone by the passenger. so that response time is reduced more  
RPF doing the job for the sake of doing. Heard that RPF person should be there in all ladies compartment. But unable to see them in local trains ( from Tambaram to Beach in Chennai). Last week one girl was pushed out of train from ladies compartment for her chain and costly mobile. By luck she fell in bushes near FORT station and next train driver saw her and saved her life. This was happened around 10.30 pm. more  
sir, passengers travelling in Rajdhani express, Satabdi etc are provided food during journey for a charge, included in the fare itself. but the quality of such food is awfully bad. The food trays are kept near the wash basins of the compartment doors for preparations before they are dispensed to the travellers. It is so unhygienic to note that dirty water keeps splashing on these trays if someone is using the wash basin at that time. If there is an option for the passengers at the time of booking the tickets whether they want to carry their own food packets or avail of the food supplied by the railways and accordingly the tickets are charged. it will cost the passengers less, will allow them to enjoy food of their own liking and force the railways or their contractors to improve the quality of food supplied, to remain in business. more  
Root Causes: 1. Systems are not in place for RPF. 2. Lack of proper manpower allocation. 3. No specific job responsibility of the RPF. 4. The entire unit is not structured on terms of authority and responsibility. 5. RPF are not penalised strictly for their non action. 6. RPFs lack courtesy training, discipline. 7.
