PROTEST AGAINST ONGC IN KADIRAMANGALAM

The local residents in Kadiramangalam in Thanjavur district in Tamil Nadu has protested against the leak in the crude oil pipeline operated by ONGC. When the technicians from ONGC arrived at the site to block the leak, the local agitators are reported to have prevented them that resulted in more oil leak. Local people are said to have insisted that the district collector should visit the site before they would permit the oil leak to be stopped. Finally, ONGC technicians are reported to have stopped the leak with the police protection.

Meanwhile , some people are reported to have set fire to some dry material nearby which was shown in the visual media. This could have caused huge catastrophe and brought Kadiramanagalam to world attention, if the oil would have started burning. Fortunately, the police put off the fire quickly which was also shown in the visual media.

The above scenario causes concern

ONGC has been operating the gas well for over fifteen years now at the site and no leak are reported to have happened in the pipeline earlier.

Obviously, this time the leak has happened and it requires investigation.

The question is whether the entire oil wells in the region should be stopped because of one leak in the pipeline.

Further, the local people seem to be thinking that the sub soil water has depleted in their area due to the crude oil wells. There is no basis for this apprehension, as crude oil wells go deep in soil and are taken out by closed system. The sub soil water for drinking and irrigation purposes are taken out from much less depth. There is drought in the entire delta region and the level of sub soil water has depleted due to this.

Crude oil and natural gas are available only in some parts of India and if local people would start protesting against the crude oil wells, the production of crude oil will decline, which is already very low.

India presently imports more than 200 million tonne of crude oil and 20 billion cubic metre of natural gas every year and import is steadily going up at 6 to 7% per annum.. India cannot afford this .

The innocent villagers need to be educated that their fear are unfounded .Political parties should refrain from taking advantage of the innocence of the local people to get political gains.

The Kathirkamam development is totally uncalled for particularly the ONGC related operations. The company is taking care of all environmental safeguard measures. As Iam the Ex ongian I strongly vouch that the ground water table is noway affected by oil exploration activities as the reserve bed of hydrocarbon is hundreds of metres below the hard cap rocks. It is nothing to do with the water table. The local people are misguided by self centred politicians whose motive is simply to loot the state in all possible ways. more
I also saw a reality show in TV in which Shri.Venkataraman was participating and explaining clearly about the issue of KADHIRAMANGALAM. Of late we find that one group of people are going around Tamilnadu protesting against any developmental activities in the state, provoking general public in the name of Language (TAMILIAN) religion etc. to join the agitation. This should be stopped forthwith by the Government with iron hand. more
Kindly explain the real situation of "Arasu Cable T.V." a few years back "SunT.V. supplied free set of box to increase their customers circle.when a private channel can do this why not the Government of Tamilnadu.? they have to implement this. This will create a new awareness among the people pf Tamilnadu .any way they are going to charge monthly on subsidised rates. This can create a revolution in Education in Tamilnadu. Gujarat have opened so many channels in English and in Gujarati for the sake of students as well public. A many decades ago Tamilnadu was in top list in Education. It will be a supplementary for School education especially for failed candidates. It will boost their studies to try again to write public exam. On Mon, Jul 3, 2017 at 6:31 AM, N.S. In Tamil Nadu any development takes place their is always a anti group work from behind the screen . like that his is also one such incident . you can identify them very easily they will join the press meet and reveal that every big infrastructural development projects come on desk they try to sabotage using their illegal money and ignorant cum innocent poor people .Finally they get beaten and these leaders escape with their team and appear in front of press and act as if they only release them from custody.( there are many such like Kudankulam, neutrino, Gail, ONGC, Colachel harbor, etc etc). now PMs initiatives cut their fuel of black money and foreign money through NGO and self help groups. That is why now the crowd is less hence they use fire , petrol bomb, ladies in the front and make them to get in to violence and force the police to use lathi charge . THAT TOO THE SAVE THEM ONLY WHICH THESE IGNORANT PEOPLE WOMEN AND CHILDRENS NEVER REALISE THE VERACITY OF THE DISASTER IF NOT STOPPED. This will stop only that all the incidents past video are made as a collection and put on screen in front of these ignorant victims to realise what happened to the past issues and how the change occurred to their next generation. even srilanka just to save one Leader lakhs of innocent tamils were put in the war front finally the arrogant rajabaksha killed lakhs of tamils and in the end one leadr's family also was killed. here also in tamilnadu the same supporters only initiate peace less ness in tamil nadu. because they dont get any mony from srilanka, but now from China and Afganistan may be US also. As all these countries are facing economic crisis and INDIA is technologicall and economicall also growing they want to sabotage this growth and want indian to be slaves for ever and now china and US are wort affected as chinas recent space technology failure also adds fuel to fire as mny countries are looking at india and are ready to pay indian SPACE Industry as India is more trustable people any any other cultured people who following ethics in business and a reliable and economic viable solution for any industry for that matter more
The politician and the thugs behind these incidents (brain washing the innocent villagers) should be mercilessly put behind the bars under the Gunda's Act.They don't have the right to do anti National Activities, yes OIL is National wealth, by destroying National wealth. These are all now small groups only. But stitch in time saves nine. Now the Tamilnadu is facing acute water shortage and drought. The State and Central Government should put their foot without fear or favour. more
Can Indian government substantiate and justify the local crude production at the cost of agriculture and ground water, any government is made by the people and for the people A government should be a welfare government rather than having Profit as the only agenda like a corporate entity If the majority of the local people object then it should be avoided rather than dumping policies on their heads with brutal force.. If you ask any tamilian today they are not in favor of ONGC drillings, Methane,Gail etc they are not eco friendly and we as people are much more happier in importing crude and paying taxes for them by safeguarding our environment, remember we don't have huge land masses like USA,Russia, China to undertake these kind of projects Moreover this government is also not passing the huge benefit of global crude oil prices slump to consumers and indirect taxes are getting higher so anyways we are paying the same taxes to local production as well so this does not benefit the people, at the end of the day Indians pay higher taxes than most other countries do (direct +indirect combined) In the next 10 to 12 years its projected that global crude oil demand will still go down by 50 % or more due to new technologies in transportation like electric and hybrid cars, trains like maglev, aluminum air battery technology, hydrogen cars and other evolving technologies and we wont require this much crude to be imported neither other countries as well, so crude is headed a downward trend. So spoiling our fertile lands only for short term benefits of next 10 to 15 years is not a welcome move and govt should move beyond extracting of fossil fuels and invest more into futuristic technologies and will help to have a sustained eco -environment and need not worry of these fossil fuel grounds for now. more
one simple questen please can you go back to bullock cart age and live with your family from chennai. ???? I am sure even your kids wont allow you to move to a village . so only that will help save some fuel petrol or diesel or Gas more
dear for any development there will be a loss on one side even in your family if family is important then no wife should go for job as children are not taken care by those parents but if you do not sent your wife for job you will find it difficult to build the career of your child as money matters hence without loosing some thing one can not come up in life . if father goes abroad for more money he looses his family , kid which will never a father could regain at old age and I am sure the child grown that way will later dont
even care for the father at his old age . child will ask the old parent where were you when we were kid did you play with us , did you take us for a movie , beach , tour etc etc which MONEY Can not answer neither to the parent nor to the child more
