Passensger Safety in Railways - Inputs on Issues

Dear Friends,

Safety of Tracks has been outlined as a high priority item in our poll.

Through this post, I request all of you to outline all the issues as they pertain to safety in Indian Railways.

Once we have listed the issues, we will review Root Causes followed by Identification of Solutions through separate posts.

Once the discussion is complete, we will submit a Whitepaper to Minister of Railways and Minister of State for Railways for actions.

Look forward to your inputs.

I fully agree with Ms. Rupali Trivedi. Introducing bullet trains, would need huge fund and infrastructure. It should be thought of only after facilitating passengers' minimum basic amenities, and security level in all trains and along all routes. Thanks more
At the age of bullet trains.i m very sadly saying .only popular sations having proper light .in small station dere is no light n no security .recenty i saw small station had no light .they were using candel n lamp ... .after dis i dnt think about bullet train. Plz improve basic demands n basic security. more
Safety, a huge umbrella heading. Station Safety: Metal detectors needed in plenty, only passengers to be allowed on to the platform visitors can go only upto concourse level (abolish platform tickets), CCTV, plenty of RPF men in all stations. Train Safety: Train sets with automatic doors, minimal movable accesories with the coach to reduce risk of vandalism (remove mirrors, waterbottle holders, foldable tables etc), fire extinguisher in all coaches, CCTV in all coaches, intercom facility to report untoward incident to the guard/driver Track safety: Upgrading of track & fencing/ROB, Tresspassing should be strictly punishable & no insurance cover or money to be paid in case of death/injury on track Passenger safety: Insurance companies can be tied up to provide accident insurance for all passengers for a nominal fee (Rs. 1 per trip or something like that). In case of accident, the insurance companies can directly disperse the money (This will empower the passengers of the right for compensation rather than beg to the railway to provide relief + it will also provide a huge source of business for the insurance sector) more
Safety of tracks can only be ensured by through vigilance. Apart from technical problems, our country has now become famous of sabotages, as we have to live with various terrorist organisations. They do not hesitate to destroy the railway tracks for mass killing. Protection of railway tracks should be of priority, particularly at the disturbed regions. Proper attention should be given to designing of railway coaches. In case of a mishap, suppose a derailment, the passengers simply get trapped in the coaches. Do you think that the so called emergency windows are sufficient for everyone to come out safely? Not at all. This is true particularly in dark. All the windows of the coaches should be such that they can be opened (even in AC coaches) fully in emergency. more
