Medical duping costs lakhs.

I took my wife for Health Checkup for women some months back to one of the hospital of chain of network leading Hospital in chennai and they first charged 5 thousand and odd rupees. At the end of the check up they asked to take scan Ultrasound Screening whole Abdomen CECT Abdomen & Pelvis & CA-125 tests which costed around 40 thousand. Even after several test they are not quite sure where problem(stomach pain) lies and asked to come for surgery which the said for some lakhs. Finding fishy and incorrect diagnosis, I consulted another surgeon who suggested that there is no need for two surgery as previous hospital told, but advised for Hernia only. Even here I felt something wrong in diagnosis, a consulted one Leading Gastroenterologist in chennai and after some investigations like ultrasound /Ultra sonogram of abdomen, which costed several thousands, at last diagnosed that my wife was having advanced appendix with fluid collection, and hernia and needs immediate surgery and asked to arrange for money.. Perturbed and unable to arrange huge amount, and also at that time due to demonetization many bank Managers did not agreed to draw huge amount that hopital wanted, I was running pillar to post of all banks and gathered what amount they gave.At last in 2 or3 spells paid the amount and then only they admitted my wife as inpatient. Even then the hospital did not tell the final cost of surgery as they performed some more tests as inpatient. Finally surgery was performed successfully. At the time of discharge only they informed final cost and asked to pay balance (a huge one) and get discharged. Their approach of surgery with lack of information of telling definite cost prior to surgery prevented me to go in for CASHLESS SURGERY from Insurance company. When the bill of the hospital was submitted to a insurance company only 1/3 of the cost only admitted. This is how the medical treatment in India is going on at the mercy of hopitals, doctors, and insurance company. more

I think there is a lack of information regarding health insurance & cashless treatment. Anyway it is always important to get second opinion. You could also see that there is a scramble for Medical Post graduation courses at astronomical costs, expecting a good pay back! more
Health care has gone beyond the affordability of common man and India is yet to provide good insurance cover. They are only reducing bank interests on fixed deposits and adding to the travails of senior citizens.(Many senior citizens do not have pension.) more
Long back, there used to be a concept called Family Doctor. It was killed systematically by the greedy specialists. There are several cases where the patients are left to die for want of money. In medical field there is no mercy. And ofcourse there are always exceptions. more
