Key Railway Issues affecting citizens - Inputs on Root Causes

Friends,

Based on your inputs, we are listing the following key issues that commonly affect Citizens:

1. Lack of cleanliness of coaches/ stations/ toilets
2. Unhygienic Food
3. Difficult online/offline ticket booking systems
4. Lack of safety on tracks – accidents happen far too often
5. Corruption and discretion with TTE
6. Lack of timeliness of trains
7. Crowding of stations/platforms by people without travel and platform tickets

Please identify root causes for the above issues and submit your views by End of Day Wednesday, July 23rd.

Once complete, we will together identify Solutions and submit a Whitepaper to the Railway Ministry.

I posted my comments as my observation and possible solutions of it. People expect everything from railways without cooperating Railways. I am not interested in knowing my points. It is not an TV serial, where judges awards points. Please stop awarding points to it. B.K.Gaur more
Spot fines can be made for cleanliness in stations. Manning of station premesis through CCTV by police control center to eradicate anti-social elements. Due care to be taken for sick / elderly persons travelling in trains by giving privilages. more
Dear Sir, I have one suggestion on safety of the Railway : 1.We can use a concept where the engine can take photos at a certain range of the railway track and compared with a model or ideal photo already stored of the railway track , In case there is mismatch for exp fishing plates broken etc the message can be given in order to apply brakes. 2.Second option is train engine can continuosly take photographs of the railway track and as soon as in the photograhps or video we see any problem on the track the decision can be taken to apply the brakes. The above can be implemented by proper discusion with railway engineers. Best Regards, Dhirendra more
1.For cleanliness Indian mentality of using public place is responsible.Contractors do not provide required cleanliness material to his staff, Labour has its own mentality not to do the things in proper way. Remedy--Strict discipline at every level. 2.Envolve passengers from few coaches with seat numbers which should be changed every day, to make comment on quality of food. 3.This requires help of I.T people. It is surprising that in India all bank branches are connected to each other but Railways can not make a better system of booking tickets. 5.This is a difficult thing. During one of journey in AC II, one gentleman said proudly said that he offered TTE Rs 1000, over and above the ticket to allot me a berth ,reason explained that it is still much cheaper than air ticket. Remedy- -Very strict punishment to TTE by deploying decoy customers. 6. Remember Gorge Farnadese, the then Railway Minister words, It requires to become Rly Minister , Why trains get delayed. Spare Railways for it. They also want to the trains on time. 7. Only major junctions and state capitals require a better and strict management. Remedy - Put the cost of special Railway Platform ticket equal to airport lounge.Political leaders should be told that platform is not a place to welcome their leaders. 1. Who is on the TRAIN responsible for Lack of cleanliness in the TRAIN ? We have to identify the PERSON who has to be made responsible after giving the INPUTS of MAN/MATERIAL/Machines. It may be the TTE/ TC or somebody who is/are travelling on the TRAIN. Also, DISPLAY the method of USAGE/APPLICATION of the TOILETS/WASHROOMS in the TRAIN for the USERS. Also, keep a MONITORING CHART in the RESPECTIVE AREAS in the TRAIN. These CHARTS should be MONITORED by the PERSON responsible, whose signatures and the Operator should sign also as per TIME PLAN. 2. The similar amended system should be applied on the Platforms and Walk-ways in the Stations. more
