Mosquito is billion dollar business, neither corporate nor govt. will eradicate the mosquito. At present we need to take care ourselves and our area. more

Storm water drainage systems have become a new source for mosquito breeding. Similarly water stagnation on the banks of the river. You will need to approach the local authority to target such places for eradication. more

There are 2 aspects when it comes to mosquito menace . First how to avoid them biting us , the next is how to reduce or stop proliferation . When we see the amount of them hovering in and around the households,gardens, parks stagnant water bodies we have to take it seriously and stop proliferation before we lose our precious blood ; and addition also get subjected to infections of all kind . Malaria isn't any more considered dangerous . It is Chicken guniya and Dengu . Once inflicted it takes 6 months for the person to get back to normal. It should be a multipronged attack , with Government Playing the main Role and the rest the supportive roles. * Domestic Wells and Lakes, Fingerlings of fish Gambusia and Tilapia should be let in. These devour on the mosquito eggs and Larvae . Normally such practices , allowing one species to destroy another leads to a problem of destroying species Proliferating . In this case it will be a boon for the fish eaters as they are consumed . * The all drainage should be made flowing and not stagnant . Stagnation takes place when trash like plastic and other are thrown .This should be strictly adhered to in Chennai city as 3 Main river System [Adayar, Buckingham , Cuum ]and several small ones now turned Gutter flow in the city . The main culprits are the encroachers , besides the general public . * As friend Karthik mentions only treated sewage should be let into these canals and be strict about it and not just on paper . * The Mosquito the flogging by the authorities on the streets is absolutely of no use at all except for publicity . Instead select only the target areas like the - Storm water drainage channels where the water stagnates due to any number of reasons. - The bush along side the canals and the water upstream . * No doubt each household having water tanks start the practice of adding drops of Larvicide . more
