Does massive crowd reflect on popularity of party

In Tamil Nadu, it has now become a regular practice for political parties to organize large meetings , where atleast a lakh of people attend and some 20 to 30 so called leaders sit on the dais.

After such massive meetings, the party and the leader claim that the massive crowd is the proof of their popularity amongst people.

Since every political party is able to organize such meetings with huge gathering , are we to conclude that every political party is so popular amongst people?

Today, common man in Tamil Nadu is reasonably well informed about public issues and politics due to the massive reach of television programmes. The people know that most of the media are owned by business houses or political parties and they exaggerate matter or give misleading interpretation to serve their interests.

One tends to think that meetings with huge gatherings are organized by political parties by mobilizing people by giving them money or gifts and organizing free transport apart from food packets and in some cases even liquor.

As common man is becoming increasingly aware, the real popularity will be known only during elections and such massive meetings really have no significance.

The political parties and political leaders in Tamil Nadu have so much of money due to their corrupt practices, they are able to “buy crowd”. But, may not be able to buy votes in similar way in the coming days, with people’s awareness increasing.

let us change the voting pattern by voting to the same party . Vote for a party which has proved less corrupt than the rest in the immediate past 5 years more
No doubt public awareness increasing due to main stream and social media ; But their rates also gone up with new benchmark created at Rs.4000 per vote , Corrupt Candidates in future have to surpass this benchmark to keep the voters happy ; Dance of Democracy more
Political parties can organise meeting huge. But commercial parties help huge people for day to day life`s requirement fulfil more
Like GST and IT making Aadhar compulsory, all politicians Aadhar and PAN should be made public, Even if all their income comes from agricultural endeavors they should be made to pay 30% of their income as tax. All political funding should be taxed even it is as small as Rs1000/-. We as public pay service tax for mobile recharge of even Rs10/-. They only pay for crowd as long as there's unaccounted money, once that is capped politicians can't gather crowd nor will they gain vote by I'll practices. Only people who are clean would be able to generate vote. more
If the law is implemented properly, it would be impossible for so many people to attend such meetings. For instance, they are bribed with food, liquor and cash. Again, transportation is on trucks and lorries. The standards of education is not aimed at employability, rather it is to keep the masses poor so that they are susceptible to low bribery. more
