Nice to hear from you, Reeta. Hope you don't have to travel back during the storm expected on Dec.22. However, people normally are not doing these things, as someone claims. A bank Manager of Indian Bank was killed by falling tree branches when he chose to take a walk in Nageswara Park on Luz Church Road, Mylapore. People have been struck by lightning sheltering under trees and also using the mobile phones during the storm. People should ensure they do not switch on the mobile phone because it is a hazard during the storm just like it is not to be used in the petrol pump. A young college girl in Mumbai was struck by lightning and charred to death just because she was in charge of her friends' mobiles while they frolicked on the sea front in Marine Drive. Since mobile towers can get struck by lightning and its transmitted to the phones it is better not to carry a mobile phone if you go out in the storm. Also people carelessly assume that TV cables do not carry current. During a storm they could transmit electricity if they have fallen on to some transformer or electric wires etc. Better to keep flower pots etc. which could be flung up missile-like indoors.
