Creating awarness about citizen views on Railways

Friends,

As we are brainstorming various issues, root causes, solutions and submitting our whitepapers to Railway Ministry, Hindu Business Line is playing a good role in creating awareness about these issues with readers of Print Media.

Here is the recent article published a few days ago about some of the circle discussions, priorities and proposals.

I AM SHOCKED THAT NOBODY OBSERVED PLIGHT OF A GENERAL PASSENGER. THE LEAST IT IS BELOW DIGNITY FOR HUMANITY. EACH TRAIN MUST HAVE MINIMUM HALF COMPARTMENTS FOR GENERAL PASSENGERS. PLEASE RECALL EACH OF US IS COMPELLED TO TRAVEL IN GENERAL COMPARTMENT ONE DAY. THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL OTHER ISSUES, IT IS REALLY PATHETIC. more
"all west is collected and thrown when train moves out of city area." Because of this, it is said that Indian Railways is the one that makes the whole country as an open latrine This is not the right way As some one pointed out here in this forum, let the compartments have a provision to collect all the solid substance (let the water out, which can evaporate) use solar power suitably to heat the same and thus remove the odor when the train runs, the solid substance can be disposed off at the selected destinations This waste can be collected at selected point to be converted as bio gas products or manure "Passengers should be allowed only one hour prior to station based on their train timings"- Our stations are of open type and we do not have multiple platforms to allow people on designated timings. Instead, any entry in to the platform must be verified against a valid ticket or a platform tickets Other things are people oriented. If the members of this forum start practicing the norms specified here and preach the same to others, some improvement is possible in near future more
Sorry guys if anyone don't agree with some of my points, but i feel some measures should be taken to maintain cleanliness on stations. I agree with comments posted earlier and they should be taken care as well. To Improve cleanliness on Stations i think unnecessary and unauthorized access should be blocked to start with at least on Major stations. Few measures to take 1) Passengers should be allowed only one hour prior to station based on their train timings 2) Platform Tickets should be increased to avoid unnecessary crowd depending on Rush on stations instead of keeping it flat across country 3) there should be CCTV cameras and warnings on stations to maintain cleanliness and fine should be applied. This will help with Security as well. There should be tight monitoring and not just for name sack. 4) There should be provision to collect the Trash on running trains, its mostly seen that once train starts from originating station no one come and empty the trash box. Every 2 or 3 stations the trash box should be cleaned. 5) Mostly we see people trash out of windows on stations. If possible there should be provision on both side of train when it reaches on platform so that if people throw out of window its collected in to some sort of container which is easy to clean. 6) There should be system in lavatories so that if trains are standing on stations all west is collected and thrown when train moves out of city area. more
Protection must be compulsory for the passenger more
TTE Discretion and Corruption – Tamilnadu can be proud that it is less With my limited travelling experience in North India by rail, I am convinced that this is predominant in all the places other than South Indian Railways, where some sort of honesty is still there. Still, some people who are dishonest but their number is less compared to their North India counterpart. Till you enter in to Tamilnadu border, the TTE would be unconcerned about ticketless travel in the train but once your train enters in to Tamilnadu, they will become serious and start acting smart. They will chase all Ticketless travelers (except their fellow Railway employees (particularly Mazdoor Union people), for the fear of Union) out of the compartments. Generally majority of the travelers in Tamilnadu irrespective of their education and socio economic level, buy tickets and they are aware of the fact that Ticketless travel is an offence (Leave alone some the so called college students and Railway employees who still travel ticketless). But in Northern parts of India it is not so. The strong and affluent people never buy tickets and if asked, the TTE will find his place (which the TTE know and never ask those people) But the weak and less educated folks do not see the difference between buying tickets from ticket counters and to that of paying to the TTE. They think that they are sincere that they paid for their travel and never ask for a receipt from the TTE, who conveniently pocket the money. To minimize the same selling ticket • Through “Online booking” is suggested. If the traveler is willing he must be allowed to book platform tickets for those people who will come to send him/her off, along with his travel ticket booking.- still some percent will do that type of planning!! • Entry in to the station without proper tickets (either a valid travel ticket or a platform ticket) must be verified and restricted (Though this is difficult because people enter in to the station from different directions wherever there is openings and not only through the main gates) • May be like flights, we can put a condition that all reserved travelers must enter in to the train ½ hour prior to start time and they must be checked for proper reservation and allowed to enter in to the compartments. • More invigilators Flying Squads to monitor ticketless travelling and also the TTE in the trains. Like Buses, if a traveler is found without ticket, the TTE can also be punished for the same • We need to put one TTE/Travel attendant per compartment. • We public also plays a predominant role in this issue. Majority of the RAC and wait listed passengers enter in to the reserved compartment, without really checking whether the RAC or wait listed tickets are allotted a specific compartment, prior to boarding (though the facility is available, in station we have a tendency to enter at the 11th hour in to the platform and never verify the same) For this all RAC and waitlisted travelers must be allowed to get into one specific compartment from where they can be moved to specific compartment on allotment We are also willing to bribe the TTE to get our RAC/wait listed tickets allotted first more
