Civic sense on trains/station – Root Causes
1. Lack of awareness and civic sense
2. Lack of sense of hygiene
3. Not enough dustbins on the stations and inside the train
4. Insensitivity towards fellow passengers
5. No fine/punishment for civic offences
6. Al lot of people are plain ignorant
7. Passengers know that the TTE hardly ever comes in the general class and hence they don’t feel the need to purchase tickets
8. Number of people traveling in the trains is far more than the capacity
9. Railways still has a very old style of working
10. A large population of people is still uneducated
11. Railways caters to a very large population and it becomes tough to regulate them
12. Railway police is always on its heels more

Alex E.G. what you have written is a common problem which I am also facing and feel frustrated about. But then it does not have anything to do with the educational level of the people. I understand this may be the problem with the software used by railways for reservation purpose. I hope the railways, do something to modify the software to take into account the problem you just cited which most of us are facing regularly. more
Sensitizing could be one of the answers - sensitizing the railway employees about their responsibilities to wards the passengers, and sensitizing the passengers about their responsibilities for maintaining cleanliness and empathy towards others and all these can be done through properly planned sustainable education of all concerned. more
People employed in Railways (at least those who do the programming etc.) seem to be 10th class failed students. Why I say this, is because young people of 30 years of age are allotted lower berths while senior citizens like me (nearing 70 years) are allotted upper berths. I have written about this several times but still this continues. It will take at least 50 years to bring the Indian Railways to world standards. Not even God can save Indian Rlys. Why should we blame the passengers only?My recent visit on a reserved sleeper class was a worst experience as how the railway authorities neglect the case of minimum amenities provided although the fund has always been allocated for such purpose .Both the toilets were provided with the broken doors, without water, proper flushing arrangements, etc. Can anybody tell what a passenger has to do who is doing overnight journey's with proper tickets? more
