Aggregate interest in excess Rs.10000/- per annum paid on SB accounts is taxable. Since the money received as income tax is spent for nation building & defence, it is the morale duty of every citizen to contribute. Therefore, the government should actively consider to make payment of income tax compulsory for every citizen having a source of income irrespective of the quantum. A nominal tax, say, Rs.500/- per annum or so may be fixed, which will make the government enable to bring down the highest rate of income tax to reasonable. Such step will certainly encourage the people in the habit of evading income tax payment due to high rates to come forward to honestly pay tax and generate white money instead of black. This will also increase the revenue under the head many folds and solve the government's financial crisis in one stroke. more
