ARE SO MANY NEW DISTRICTS IN TAMIL NADU NEEDED ?

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister is announcing new districts in the state very frequently as if it is a big achievement.

I wonder whether any systematic and logical study have been carried out about the need before announcing so many districts. Or, is this also political and short sighted decision like so many other decisions.

At present, when communication has improved so much, there is only case for less districts and not more. So many new districts will increase administrative expenditure significantly.

Why nobody has raised any objection for” district formation phobia”?

Though there may not be need to so many additional districts, Tamilnadu is not alone in this issue. Telangana CM has created many districts after bifurcation, just to please many. This is all political move, others are corollary. more

it is another political move when there iare so many issues to attend on war footing.. more
During British rule there were only a few districts and well administered. 1.Chennai 2.Chengelpet 3.North Arcot 4.South Arcot 5.Salem 6.Thanjavur 7.Tiruchinopally 8.Coimbatore 9.Madurai 10.Ramnad 11.Tirunelveli Now new districts can create more buildings, officers and so & so.. Later Kanyakumari Dt.was formed. It is going to cost more on the exchequer. Then Taluk office & Tahsildars were very effective .I do not know in any other states this amount of districts were formed. It may give more employment for IAS officers. In those days only one Jeep were shared by both Tahsildar & Dy. Collector. Now the officials are flying in A/C cars. more
Thank you for pointing out what I have been thinking for years! Also why they keep changing names of places, railway stations etc, that do not result in any benefits to anyone, except for a few contractors? more
