Alcohol Consumption and Smoking in Trains

Dear Friends,

Last week we had conducted a poll in the circle asking you if strong enforcement should be put in place over the ban of alcohol consumption and smoking in trains.

With over 8000 votes, 92% of you responded with an affirmative YES, 6% saying NO and 2% had No Opinion.

The poll results will be shared with the Railways Ministry if they would like to take further action.

We have 5 posts seeking your inputs currently. Kindly share views if you haven't so far.

Agreed Outsourcing does not mean sheading the responsibilities. I think this is trend in all government departments. They will simply outsource the activity and also responsibility. They will be a onlooked and enjoy the mess as they are not worried about anything. They will earn their pay and get pension for lifetime. more
In 2014, first let us all admit that we the Indian citizens do lag behind in respecting our own national assets when compared to our peers in advanced economies.May a times I have found while travelling on Shatabdi and Rajdhani Express trains who mercilessly people travelling make the toilets and basin adjoining areas a mess.Another major area why today overall services including clean bed sheets, towels, blankets, pillows and food quality has deteriorated across major long distance express trains is that in the name of privatisation, these facilities have been awarded to people and companies who has no idea of hospitality.I have personally interviewed many staffs of these contractors, who complain of being low pay, lack of railway inspection and the corrupt ways and procedures of winning bids and contracts. If we have to make a change, we ourselves have to change. more
First of all alcohol consumption in public is the one required to be tackled. Then only railways can come into picture.I.e.alchol consumption cannot be viewed in isolation in railway premises and trains.Coming to railway staff concerted effort should be made to educate them by any means. No consumption zone boards may be tried out also. With the CC TVA gaining ground for installation it will be possible to identify the menace. I mean mainly in platforms. We can't be go on increasing gadgets as they will puncture the purse of not only railways but also the exchequer. Incidentally I will narrate how we are going on loading expenses. A small S & T workshop was there very close to Ajmer station. It was known as Signal Engineers workshop. There was a night duty watchman. He has to go round the compound wall protecting the workshop. Some in 6 places there was one time watch With punching machine. To see that the watch man does not sleep he will punch the card at these location. The punching will show the timing he had moved for punching. In my time itself the duty of watching was taken over by railway protection force. As against 2 persons the RPF justified 4 with one head.you see them in uniform. The remuneration had also increased. Are we not seeing the RPF personals every where by leaps and pounds now a days? Along with increase in field staff the administrative staff also increased. Training of RPF personnel sis there. All these expenditure can be put in a back burner If efforts would have been taken to tap morale. For that also expenditure will be there. more
