Shutdown whatsapp

We as a population are not ready for whatsapp. Iliterate idiots who have no clue and are ready to murder get their tips now via whatsapp and then they go in rampage. GOI should shut whatsapp. Its like giving a gun to a teenager who gets emotional outburst.

Some educated guy came back from abroad was distributing chocolates and these idiots beat him to death.

A 32-year-old software engineer was beaten to death and three others - one of them a Qatar national -- were seriously injured over WhatsApp-driven rumours of child kidnapping in Karnataka's Bidar. The police said the mob frenzy started after the man from Qatar was seen distributing chocolates to local children. The police have arrested 32 people.
The techie, Mohammad Azam, had gone for a drive on Friday with three others when they were stopped at the roadside. Mr Azam's friend Mohammad Salam, who was from Qatar, was seen handing chocolates to children.

Rumours of child lifting were doing the rounds in the area and seeing the chocolates being handed out, residents of a nearby village, Murki, sent messages on a WhatsApp group.

Soon, a large crowd gathered and started an argument and taking videos. Panicking, the men got into their car and drove away. Some of the villagers chased them on motorcycles, said the police. Some way off, the speeding car hit one of the motorcycles and fell into a culvert.

As the crowd caught up, the men were dragged out of the car and brutally beaten up, said eye witnesses. Hundreds of villagers gathered but none came to their rescue. By the time the police arrived, Mohammad Azam had died. The others were taken to the hospital in Hyderabad.

"They had gone out for a drive. My brother gave chocolates to children. We don't know what their parents thought but several villagers gathered and beat them. How can they think they were kidnappers?" said Mohammad Azam's brother Akram. Appealing to the government to stop mob killings, Akram said, "My brother was a software engineer, father of a 2-year-old. He was just a regular guy".

Ban Whatsapp, Facebook and other social media platforms or control strictly to prevent violence and harassment of innocent citizens. more
I do agree with you readers of Local circles. Most of the rumors arise from WhatsApp. People just forward the message they receive without even thinking about its repercussion. When I receive some nasty messages or rumors instigating some communities, I just delete it and it stops there. It does not go further from my mobile. I think its time to give an an awarenss programme to the users of social media. more
whats app has its utility but it is a pain in neck as ignorant and unemployed good for nothing people flood your phone with useless texts and videos. more
Next shall we ban knives. Because kill with them? It is not whatsapp that creates the problem, but the lack of law and order, even after 70 years of independence. Blame those who ruled this country. Not whatsapp. more
Is whatsapp the cause or the persons who are using it (sending and acting on what is being received) the cause? If whatsapp is shutdown, those who want to create trouble will use some other ploy or tool (there are plenty available). it would be good to find out who these personalities are who are acting on whatsapp messages and what their real motives are. For now, the people who have been caught and the entire village needs to be dealt with severely by the authorities. Ask the villagers why they acted the way they did? I am sure there would be answers which are not related to whatsapp. Who sent the whatsapp message and why? more
