Safety of Senior Citizens

Our joint family system was intact and the safety of senior citizens was never a concern. During last two generations people emerging out from the poverty involved in the corruption, rights, greed, luxuries and hatred. Children therefore have lost the affectionate feeling for mother as special. The families started splitting. A comfortable and convenient nuclear family concept liked the most by women. Indian family is not complete without children and grandparents. This family has more advantages than the disadvantages. The best safety to senior citizens therefore is to set up joint families. Towards the safety of senior citizens there should be some immediate measures and some long term measures be planned.
Immediate: - For their Safety
1. Senior citizens form a group of five or more persons always walk, stroll or visit bank, market etc. unitedly.
2. Every Senior citizen carry a sharp tone whistle and an identity card as hanging badge.
3. Every house or apartment having Senior citizens staying alone has a buzzer to alert neighbor for health or security hazard.
4. Encourage luxurious or comfortable old houses by professionals and NGO’s
5. Encourage the establishments that can provide services of electricians, mechanics, plumbing, etc. through registered and reliable personnel.
6. Home visit for doctors be made compulsory.
7. Able and healthy Senior citizens involve themselves in voluntary work at play grounds, temples, masjids, churches, libraries, hospitals, NGO’s, orphanages, watch and vigilance at banks like a nishkam karma yogi. This should be encouraged by all establishments.
8. Not considering Senior citizens as a poultry birds and overprotective attitude to lock them up but to educate them to forget past and appreciate change in new world. Temples, Masjids and churches should organize religious functions and also intellectual debates or speeches on scientific subjects, current problems before society and nation only for intellectual Senior citizens.
9. Subsidies be related to joint families.
10. Tel No. in hand with Senior citizens for smart reach for police charley.
11. Closing all Yojana’s for senior citizens and granting Rs. 1000.00 Pension per Senior citizen per month to all Senior citizens having no income.
12. 50% concession in travel at all govt. and private transport.

Long Term Planning.
It is necessary to protect family system in India. A joint family system is a gift from agricultural society. Similarly high population is pressurizing all systems and compelling us to revert back a few systems. The only system that can protect senior citizens is joint family.
1. A family be defined as Husband wife and Children, Son marries a second family is created. Unmarried girl at and above age 35 should be considered as independent family. Divorced couple as independent temp. Two families.
2. One family only can own one house in the country, one car, two scooters, one profession or two jobs and upper limit of wealth. BPL – URL.
3. Joint family can have second house, apartment etc. to let out.
4. Children having lessions at primary and secondary school to teach moral, ethics and family values importance of parents, grandparents and great grandparents.
5. Importance and endorsement for senior citizens to work for family as watch dog, non interfering advisers and a blessing leader.
6. Disrespect and discard the old traditions like dowry, satkar, useless traditions, maharajgiri etc for which Senior citizens are look down upon.
7. Subsidies connected and enhanced for joint families.
8. Tax benefit for joint families.
9. 50% reservation to women at all Govt., Private establishments, parliament to gram panchayat, except at places of hazardous situation.
10. Paid services from police dept. for short term security when required by Senior citizens. more

Sr citizen-65+lost earning capacity and mostly depend on savings. Their medical expense grow in double or triple speed than their age. Govt. should not tax them atleast upto 10 Lakhs and no TDS hassles more
Useful suggestions. more
In my opinion the suggestions are very apt &relavant to present society needs & also to sr citizen but the million dollar question is almost every Govt dept/its bureacrats give lip sympathy & respect on paper only but who will translate into dynamic actions? When govt is constructing Double bed room houses, why not for sr citizen for facility in c sr citizen colony? leave away alloting land/house/flat, when a sr citizen complains that his land is grabbed by anti-social elements in the garb of construction of Ram temple, & if complained to Govt deparments neither the police nor revenue reacts to such illeaga actions showing gross deriliction of duties & great contempt for them since they do not grease the palms of corrupt officials. The poor , helpless Sr citizen, to whom he has to complain in his old age? At least in good old times the erstwhile "Maharajas/Nawabs " used to hold "durbars" daily and thrash the problems then & there itself dynamically. Now we have "mobocracy "in the Garb of "Democracy" and to check all these harassments for sr citizen , let us look forward to have the Avathar of "Another Mahaathma" with a ray of hope, in future! more
Propsal appears nice but impracticable in India today. Senior citizens have to make their own measures for protection and safety more
