Safety of Girls & Women from Rape

In addition to prescribing tighter norms for bail, faster prosecution and increased penalty of life term or death, the government needs to attend to following issues urgently concerning police force in our country to prevent rape and other crimes.
1. Strengthening the capacity of the police force to investigate crimes and prosecute the guilty expeditiously.
2. Police reform to prevent political interference in investigation of crimes and the conduct of enforcing the law.
3. Training policemen in crime detection, creating trust between the community and the police, so that information flows to the police.
4. Bringing in professionalism in police work including registration of FIR without delay, conducting investigation and filing charge sheet within the prescribed time frame .
5. Not making victims of crime run from one Police Station to other on issue of jurisdiction.
6. Use of Information Technology in police investigation similar to what is done in USA & UK.
What really makes public not trust police is due to cases like that of an MLA accused of rape roaming free, even as the victim’s father is picked up by the police and beaten up. more

With Kick Ass Asumal being kicked in for Life time, we see from reactions that even educated people are being misled and they in turn try to mislead others in to believing that Asaram was framed. It is easy for people to form opinions which they hear in comfort of their homes or in temples but if they were to be in the shoes of the parents who lost their minor child whose body was found in Asarams' Ashram in Ahmedabad...if they were to have their own daughter ravished by Asaram...they would then know what dignity is..if you go back in time...Who is Asaram? He was a good for nothing evil goon who was a nuisance to people then his parents put him with a Sadhu and he learnt the nuances from a Guru Lilashah whom Sindhi's worship as their God. Asaram himself actually is a Pakistani and his family came to settle in Ahmedabad when partition took place....So much for this Pakistani Godman to whom even politicians..including our PM were hobnobbing with him in his Ashram. If Asaram were to be given 3rd degree, he would sing like a lark and perhaps reveal who all enjoyed with him. more
I do keep coming to Tamil Nadu & last visited in 2016 for property registration in a small rural area of Chengalpattu District. Surakshit Bharat is everybody's dream and not just mine or yours. We are all family people and just as we are concerned for our kids, so also should we look out for our neighbors. In Ahmedabad (Gujarat) while both myself and my wife used to go for work and our elder son (then 5 year old) would return back from school in school rickshaw and would sit whole afternoon watching cartoon on tv with grill gate either open or closed. But we never worried because all our neighbors (100% Hindu's) were like one extended family of ours...they would keep an eye on him and also pamper him with snacks. When I got transfered and went to work in Chennai..my wife and both kids were well looked after by same flat neighbors. But BJP sowed seeds of hatred even in Gujarat...ground situation and reality is now different from what it was in early late 90's. more
Forget Asaram case. I can say so much about/against him, though I don't know anything about him. I agree with your views. I was concerned with you omitting some words. Come to TamilNadu to see the play here by all those left out 'words/worlds' and I got upset because of what I see here. You might see/hear more about that Asaram there, we don't know/don't want to know much about cheats however big a followers crowd he may have. Not with your main point at all. Sorry if you are personally hurt. more
Why this doubt Sankara? We are all Humans... God created us as Humans and we divided ourselves and the multiplication of humans necessitated creation of more Gods. Recently in Ghaziabad a muslim cleric raped a 11 year old girl keeping her confined for 3 days. When the story broke, he bolted to his hometown but the long arm of Law caught up with him. Be it father in church, sister in convent or a monk in monastry, the moment they break the norms of discipline....irrespective of their position they are automatically OUTLAWS and the only place for them is Jail. And if they are in a position where people look upto them for guidance and motivation but they let them down and take advantage of them instead, will people not lose Trust? If it happens with a member of church, her trust in not just the institution but also God would be shaken. However even yesterday in a channel one lady was stoutly defending Asaram in Mirror Now - The Last Word program where despite Asaram's daughter distancing herself from her father and his wayward ways, the lady was stuck to her record that everything was orchestrated. The rape of the 16 year old...her testimony, the testimony of 3 minor children who were sodomised castrated and killed in Ahmedabad ashram did not move her. For that matter the Vishwa Vidhyalaya founder and godman Dixit is still untraceable. Law does not differentiate between crime and perpetrators of crime. It is only we people who look at it with colored vision. more
Laws, Police, Government can do nothing till we bring in Substantiate change in Human Values, Ethics and Civic Sense. Only Religion that to Good Relion, in That Honest & Sincere Religious People can do some thing. They are mostly thrown out of this country by not allowing them to get suitable lively hood due to reservations and Corruption. more
In majority of crime cases in our country, the politicians irrespective of the parties they belong to shamelessly & without any restrictions interfere and influence the police investigations. The police being government servants easily & cheaply get influenced by these so called leaders knowing that they can cause innumerable hardships and harassment in their carrier as they do have nexus and direct access to the people in the governments. This is one of the main reasons for not registering FIR at the first instance and undue delay in completing investigations as well as filing cases in the courts for prosecutions. Existence of large scale corruptions in the police department is another main reason for adopting delay tactics. Considering these aspects, Police Department should be made an Autonomous Body restricting all kind of interference and the department should always work on full strength. Is it not funny that our police department and the courts function with their 50 to 60% of the sanctioned strength for years. If such a treatment is met with the agencies directly responsible to maintain law & order and delivering justice in time, how a state can function in the desired manner and protect the life & interests of its citizens? And the number of police forces deployed in the security of the leaders despite acute shortage of police personnel must be drastically reduced to the barest minimum. These are some of the important aspects to be adopted with immediate effect, which will re-energise and reactivate the law enforcing agency and expedite delivery of justice to the affected in reasonable time. more
