For rating maintenance of roads, you need to have roads first! Do we have roads in Mumbai? All the comments written by members are good, but are our authorities reading them? Every years it is the same story. BMC makes roads in May so that they get washed off by July. They will do some patchwork before Ganpati to save them from the ire of Ganpati mandals and which will last till visarjan. And then the citizens have to drive on broken roads till next May. Can't they have little bit of decency to repair and make roads immediately after monsoons, so that we can get some worth of our Taxpayers' money till next rains? Writing blogs will not help solve the problem. People who use roads need to get together and gherao our lawmakers. It may be a question of taking leave from our work for a day, but unless we do it, things will not change. Our politicians-bureaucrats-contractors nexus will continue to fleece us and our media will continue to praise the Mumbai spirit. Is it really Mumbai spirit or our apathy towards issues of public interest that is responsible for our problems? We love feel that we can't do anything. But when people get together, like Anna Hazare's fast in Delhi, or uprising in Egypt, we can really make a difference. It's high time Aam Mumbaikar wakes up and start fighting for their rights. We should not expect any political party to fight for us. They only do vandalism when their own party issues or leaders are involved as they are not concerned by our problems. Wake up Mumbai...
Can you show me even a small stretch of good road in Mumbai? I live on Naushir Bharucha Road in Mumbai since 1970. The road surface has deteriorated, the tree cover has reduced, hygienic conditions are worsening, footpaths are vanishing year after year. Unless the corrupt and their families are punished to set an example, no public service can ever improve.
Patch work is the norm of the authorities. Cementing of roads is the only solution. Some novel ideas of blocks were introduced. The laying of these was faulty and could not binds the blocks properly. Some blocks cracked and gave away leading to holes. Maintenance of cement roads is easier than all other ways of laying roads. Swacch Bharat would be served better. Costs may be higher but the quality if assured would go a long way overall.
One of the worst..I wonder what makes them awake during monsoon to repair potholes..why not focus on making quality roads so that it does not get potholes at all...Shiv Sena & BJP have just been blind to the woes of people's sufferings to all the problems. And the opposition parties are just as quiet as well.. They all will be hyperactive proximate to the elections... Hope they get out of their slumber and do something.
I would say until and unless the contractor's lobby is eradicated from MCGM and recruitment & selection of Engineers per caste and senior officer's natives is stopped, no change can be seen. Non technically sound Engineers are recruited from low rating university and others by paying bribes. Some by their caste. What will their mentality be? Local MLAs and contractor's of political parties (need not to say any particular post as all are same) are also the reason.
