Xiaomi Counterfeit Phones

A ton of counterfeit Xiaomi phones caught. Question is many of them could be selling online. What is being done to ensure online people dont get fake phones. Amazon Flipkart? Anything?

Counterfeit Xiaomi smartphones and accessories valued at ₹13 lakh were seized by Delhi police on 25 November from four suppliers in Karol Bagh’s Gaffar Market, the Chinese phone company is saying.

Over 2,000 counterfeits resembling Xiaomi products were confiscated during the raid after Xiaomi filed a complaint with the local police. These include a wide range of mobile accessories, such as power banks, neckbands, travel adapters with cable, earphones and headsets. Some of the products are yet to be officially launched in India.
Xiaomi claims the police, during their interrogation, found that the four suppliers were dealing in counterfeit products for years and were selling them in retail and wholesale to their customers. more

In this world of electronic products, it is difficult to stop Counterfeit items. more
Counterfeit electronic / mechanical products have been selling in India for a long time even before the arrival of internet. It is known as grey market, where duplicate products are sold in near identical packaging as original. The prices of these products are lower than the originals to attract buyers. Sometimes the manufactures themselves also thrive in the grey market by pushing the factory reject products through the grey market. Mostly rather than the product equipment it the is the accessories or the spare parts which make the largest chunk of the grey market. In fact the grey market caters to more than 60% of the actual market share. It is very difficult to control the grey market as the products have a minor variation from the original product and because of the price difference the demand is high. more
There is need to enact harsh laws against fake/duplicate/adulterated/ sub-standard item producers/sellers as India is already filled with such products of all sorts. more
I feel there should be no worry if you are buying online from Amazon. Latest models of Xiomi are available only in flash sale, not OTC. Buyer gets Amazon cash memo ,dealer name and address etc. That is valid fro warranty service .And if one can prove that it is a counterfiet product, Amazon is bound to replace DO NOT PURCHASE ONLINE FROM ANY OTHER SELLER OR A RETAILER IN THE MARKET unless you are confident about the seller . more
