Ice Cream being sold by Volume ( litre) , but not delivered as per weight ( Gms)

A lot of ice cream companies will list their products in terms of volume ( like 500 ml) but when delivered , you would realize that its not even 300 ml. When confronted, they would say, 500ml is equal to xx grams, and so they have sent xx grams of ice cream which is what they were supposed to send.

Packed ones like Amul or Mother dairy is fine but a lot of reputed brands which sell unpacked ones indulge in this inappropriate practice. We need to challenge them and also see if appropriate authorities can stop this practice. more

I have never observed the say that what is marked in volume is delivered by weight. Specifically in case of ice creams, it will be difficult to deliver by volume if scooped. In general, uncompressible fluids (Liquids) only can be delivered by volume and rest including gasses can only be delivered by weight. In case of discrepancy, it is the effected party, which has to raise the complaint (without branding everybody as corrupt) but in case of edibles, it is difficult to produce evidence. In such cases, the regulating authority has to go by random check, which may or may not result in action, for which we the citizens should not attribute motives. Perhaps, Sri Sabyasachi Gupta's suggestion- "The Licensing authority - whether corrupt or not - need an intelligence group which will go to market and collect information. They can temporarily hire to see the results or hire MBA interns every year for this purpose." may be helpful. The citizen, however, has to bear the cost incurred in regulation without grudging it. more
500 ML weighs around 460 gms (appro). Why only Ice Cream, you just verify various other house hold items, particularly, eatables. The wrappers of various products are ascribed in bold as "Extra---- %" but we seldom verify whether the packets actually carry the extra items as mentioned on the packs! In fact all our government agencies people are corrupt and lethargic. They are aware of the facts but keep their mouth full of bribe shut. Under such a situation, consumers are helpless and sufferers. more
