When Evidence Says No, But Doctors Say Yes

Please read this article to know why most in the medical fraternity do not care for patient's health but prescribe procedures even when there is no evidence that it is needed. An example of stents is very clear.

Mr. D K Gupta, I appreciate your practicality but let us avoid 'terminal' views; views of hopelessness. Now that we have social media, like this forum, we should make use of to bring awareness to people. I do realize that the vast majority of Indians may not have exposure to this media but people like those on this forum can express freely and maybe someone, somewhere, sometime will listen. Maybe doctors on this forum will realize and change their behaviour for the betterment of the society at large, work conscientiously towards finding the root cause of illness and towards healing their patients and obtain the blessings of God. more
Durga Prasad, once again I have to use the word 'absolutely' when I totally agree with you. Apart from the cash cow (patients) that these unscrupulous doctors thrive upon to make their money, they have no conscience that one day they will be facing God. How do they face the image of God, each morning or night, when they perform puja or pray to God for their welfare knowing fully well that they have sent a patient running around unnecessarily or misdiagnosed only for the sake of profiting from them. Are they not not satisfied with cheating patients? are they not trying to cheat God as well? As for sugar, once again, you are spot on. Refined sugar is the worst "drug" which is actually the silent killer and the root cause of chronic diseases (good fats are good for you!). Also our modern (mechanized) farming methods, using genetically modified (GMO) seeds, the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers has made our wheat, rice and other similar grains harmful for human consumption. Moreover, after harvesting, further processing to extract the nutrients from grains (especially wheat) puts them in the category of refined carbohydrates that converts to sugar in our bodies when consumed. So apart from sugar, I have stopped consuming any wheat products e.g. bread, chappatis, noodles, pasta etc. However, doctors are not interested in the nutritional aspect of health or are not interested in finding the root cause of diseases. They rely totally on the medical representative (who is not a doctor, just a salesman!) that comes to their clinic to promote his company's medical products and blindly prescribes those products to his patients without doing any research of their efficacy. more
Thanks John Pascoal Menezes. I totally agree with your statement. Doctors infuse fear in patients with their own agenda to sell more medicines and make the patients dependent on drugs. No wonder Pharma companies take planeloads of doctors to foreign shores on holiday jaunts, all expenses paid and offer expensive gifts for promoting the branded drugs manufactured by them. Dermatologists, Dentists, Cardiologists, ENT etc and every section of so called specialists are all entertained in the same way. Probably humans would be better of when all these specialisations are naughted and the patients are treated as one single holistic unit for treatment of any disease. God has made several systems in the human body to work in such perfect unison for its healthy existence, but our fellow humans in the garb of SUPER- SPECIALISATION segregated each system for their own commercial interest! Tragically no "Super Specialist" doctor of one system knows about the impact or side effect of his medicines on the other systems. My father had dementia and the Super Specialist Neurologist put him on blood thinner as a precautionary measure in order to prevent any clotting in the brain. Suddenly, my father had a blood red eye one morning and we rushed him to an Eye specialist. The eye specialist did all tests first, and then saw his medical history papers and exclaimed " Oh, the blood thinner has created the problem! The blood has become very thin and has diffused into the eye!" Because blood thinner medicines are not within his area of SPECIALISATION, he again asked us to go to the neurologist for rectifying the problem! So, the Neurologist had his earnings two times and the ENT specialist one time at the cost of a poor old Senior Citizen!! We had neither the knowledge nor the courage to question either SPECIALIST! Another case in brief. I suddenly developed vertigo one night and my sons took me to the emergency in Fortis Hospital. Our lack of basic knowledge did the trick for Fortis. As I later learned one of the primary reasons for vertigo is spondylosis. Any good doctor would first check for the primary cause of any problem. But the SPECIALISTS AT FORTIS had caught a fish that had medical insurance! I was admitted immediately, started with all tests relating to heart including colour doppler test, then all tests relating to the brain including brain scanning and then the last was the Ortho Specialist who, not to be left behind, after x-rays and SCANNING OF THE SPINAL COLUMN, finally concluded that the vertigo was because of spondylosis! They discharged me after four days of "INPATIENT SPECIALISED TREATMENT" with visits not only of the SPECIALISTS, BUT ALSO THE GENERAL PHYSICIANS, AND DIETICIANS(!) AND SPECIALIST PHYSIOTHERAPIST WHO ADVISED ME TO DO SOME SIMPLE EXERCISES. The Ortho specialist did not have the basic knowledge of those exercises (related with his own subject) which would help improve spondylosis! And the bill including that of physiotherapist and dieticians costed a good 50K to the Insurance co! A few months ago I read an article on White Sugar and the danger it causes to humans. Besides not having any food value, this item introduced by the British has left the world population, a diabetic, and in its sway a huge pile of side effects of diabetics and its corresponding medication. I suddenly stopped consumption of sugar and sweets etc. I use 'gur' or jaggery in my coffee. Though initially, the taste was a little difficult to be accepted, now I enjoy coffee with jaggery! I have never felt any problem in giving up white sugar! In fact, I feel more energetic in many ways after giving up white sugar. The tragedy of human beings is that we get into habits very easily but can never muster up enough mental strength to get out of the habit! more
I AM APRACTICAL MAN & I FEEL NOTHING CAN BE DONE TO REMOVE THIS SORT OF HAPPENINGS. IT IS THE GREEDY NATURE OF HUMANBEING. THIS WILL CONTINUE TILL THEIR IS COMPETITION. POOR QUALITY OF OUT PUT FROM GOVT. HOSPITALS IS THE MAIN REASON. MORE GOVT. HOSPITALS MAY BE ONE SOLUTION. CHARITY HOSPITALS CAN ALSO REDUCE THIS. THE RATIO OF DOCTOR & PATIENT IS VERY VERY LESS. THE SHINNING PICTURE OF PRIVATE HOSPITALS HAVE REDUCED THE FLOW OF DOCTORS TO GOVT. HOSPITALS THAT IS WHY THE RETIREMENT AGE FOR DOCTORS HAS BEEN INCREASED TO 65. THE ONLY SOLUTION IS TO INCREASE THE GOVT. & CHARITY HOSPITALS. GREEDY HUMAN NATURE WILL BE THERE ALSO BUT SOME IMPROVMENT WILL BE THERE. more
Mr. Durga Prasad what you have written is excellent. I am hoping that members of this forum read your response and be convinced that they must take more interest in their own health. This is mainly because the knowledge of our doctors is flawed as what they have learnt in their medical college is flawed because most of these medical colleges are sponsored by large pharmaceuticals and food industry who teach them to fulfill their agenda of making big money! For example, we do not need to lower cholesterol, cholesterol is good for us because it is crucial for the functioning of our bodies because it is a repair mechanism which goes to repair damaged cells. Just because it is found at the scene of the blockage does not mean that it is the culprit. The statistics also show that people who die of heart failure generally do not have elevated cholesterol. And our doctors and heart surgeons know about this but they do not apply their practical experience and say 'no' to statins. If they do, they will not make money. They are not willing to invest their time and try to understand the anomaly. God made us with cholesterol so who are we to artificially reduce cholesterol? and where is the science behind it? Pharmaceuticals companies who sell statins (the cholesterol reducing medication) made more than $50 Billion in profits at the cost of poor patients. And most patients that take this medication are suffering from side effects of dementia, Alzheimers, Parkinson's, diabetes, muscle problems etc. I have stopped taking Statins after I did my research and I am feeling much better. I am not worried about elevated cholesterol because as I get older the body produces more of it. What you must worry about is Sugar and Refined Carbohydrates. Stop them and stay healthy a healthy life. more
