WEIGHT AND MEASURE

I wish to bring to the attention of the concerned authorities the malpractice of textile manufacturers and traders in our country.

Textile traders in Maharashtra ,Gujarat and Rajasthan ( as I deal with them ) have been measuring and selling 95 cms as 1 metre, though 100 cms makes 1 metre.

This practice started from 15-16 years. When this started it was measured as 98-97 cms and now it has reduced to 95 cms and they still sell it and bill as 1 metre. Very soon it will reach 90 cms and sold as 1 metre.

The weight and measure department is aware of this practice and is not taking any step.

This is cheating and the concerned department and ministry needs to look into the same. more

They devised the cut pieces method as a tax avoiding system ,but they continue to benefit by under measurement even after that to make money . The department of metrology in states is corrupt ,lethargic . Visit petrol pumps ,you will realize it .vist jewelry shops you will see it. They need vigilence on them. more
The weights and measures department is just one department in the list. Non of the officials act. They come to office and go home. Whether one meter will one inch, they get their salary. more
this is nothing but cheating the public and they should be punished for it. On Sat, Jun 4, 2016 at 9:31 AM, Asif Kareem wrote: > more
All over the nation till date none of the central or state governments have taken initiative to correct the aberrations. In Salt Lake City Kolkata West Bengal I find no one uses a municipality approved weight. And none is caught and penalized till date??? Sellers continue to use weights with a piece of stone on the back recess where municipal stamp shall exist. We have very peculiar situation, not acceptable in any free market economy. The price of vegetables are not displayed. Different rates are charged from different customers. Customers who buy part of the vegetable from another sellers are flatly refused purchase other items. This can only happen in Kolkata and may be in India. This is not permissible in a civilized world. Middlemen rule the roost. Both farmers and customers are at the receiving end. And politicians say minimum government, maximum governance!!! more
