Waive off Tax for the Covid-19 period!

Covid-19 has affected almost all citizens and residents of India. People are jobless and businesses are either shut down or in a loss. People are unable pay their EMI's. Loan moratorium relief was provided for a certain period of time, which has now ended. Not sure if it will be further extended. In such a scenario, why can't the government waive off the Income Tax of the general public for the Covid-19 period, refund it and provide them financial relief? Why can't the government reduce the GST and why are the prices of goods as well as commodities increasing daily? Why is the government not bothered about the common man? It's high time we get the much needed financial assistance from our government. Thank you. more

I agree. This is high time Govt should Tax Agriculture income. Only those Farmers who have small lands must be exempted. Even lands can be divided in certain catageries as per their productivity, rain areas, flood prone areas, arid areas ,available irrigation facility etc. more
Income Tax is charged proportionate to individual income. During Covid 19 spread if there is less income to an individual he would be charged less. To compensate loss in Govt. revenue, Agricultural income should be charged by the Govt. Normally Agricultural income is earned by the rich farmers, politicians or Babus to reduce their liability on income tax. more
the trend since 80s have been that most politicians among all political parties hold huge tracts of agricultural land, registered as agriculturists, so that they can avoid payment of tax to the government. and these lands are in benami names of their near and dear ones all claiming to be farmers...which in actuality has not been ever verified by successive governments, not have they ever tried to evaluate the earnings and financial standings of these sic so called farmer politicians... the original real farmer is left in the lurch by these acts of politicians, who have since decades played with the law ,using their political clout and influencing the varied departments that come under the purview of their illgotten assets and financial status..
the IT department has done precious little to rein in these defaulters, for decades, due to political influence, curtailing their power to act. more
Income tax and GST should not be waived. Further during this period if salary paid is less, then corresponding to that only It if any applicable. more
Remove income tax for ever as negligible % of people in our country pays Income tax. remove IT and see how wealth gets created and money comes to the market in white money and not black more
May be Right thing would be to increase the min. taxable income limit ..to higher level. more
