Unfair practice by IT Deptt,

I had filed my income tax return for the assessment year 2021-22 under section 139(1) i.e., filed on or before the due date, and claimed the refund of Rs. 5000 plus. The same was acknowledged by the department on 13-07-2021 i.e., on the same day of my filing the return. But the assessment order dated 20-04-2022 showed return of Rs.0 (Zero) and as well as amount of refund was shown of Rs.0 (Zero).
What I fail to under stand that once the department has admitted the return of certain value and acknowledged refund of certain amount, then how can they assess the return for Rs.0 and forfeit the refund.
What can be done in this situation? more

please check your TDS claim in the ITR and match it with form no.26AS more
You are talking about the ITR filed by you for the AY 2021-2022 which was filed by you on 13/07/2021 U/S 139(1) claiming refund of Rs.5000/- plus and your ITR was acknowledged by the IT department on the same day. Now your grievance is that on dated 20/04/2022 you have received Assessment Order actually it is Intimation u/s 143(1) of IT Act and in this intimation your income and refund has been shown as ZERO instead of the income declared by you. You must be aware that last year that is in 2021 the government has launched the NEW IT Portal and there were lots of technical glitches in the NEW IT Portal and that's why the government had extended the due dates several times till December 2021 and at that time it was a common error that an assessee had filed his or her ITR declaring some income and portal was showing as Zero income or different values. When you had filed your ITR on 13/07/2021 have you downloaded the acknowledgment receipt ITR-V of your ITR and if YES then what figures it was showing at that time? If the acknowledgment ITR-V is showing the income figures which you had filed then you have to lodge grievance on IT Portal in this regard and if ITR-V is showing Zero values then you were supposed to resubmit your ITR at that time as due to technical glitches of the portal your ITR was not properly submitted or acknowledged. First check your ITR-V before any conclusion. After that you may contact me at 9899390850 or mail me at adv.sanjeevgoel@gmail.com for further clarifications. more
Acknowledgement of ITR is not the acceptance of claims made in the ITR. more
May be you have done some mistakes while filing your returns. Please check once again more
Acknowledgment is just that. It does not mean your tax calculations are verified. It is like a return receipt by the post office. The post office is oblivious to the content or has no knowledge of the content. more
