Unique TDS certificate no in Form 16A

Can a CA or a Income tax practitioner urgently tell me whether the unique TDS number appearing in form 16A printed from TRACES website needs to be compulsory mentioned in the Etax filing returns? There is a column in the TDS scetion of the return format calling for the unique TDS certificate number. I have only oneTDS entry which is appearing in Traces website for AY 2016-17, but the deductor being a Govt organisation is still not able to generate the TDS form 16A from the Traces website. I am in a bit if a hurry to complete my Efiling of IT return immediately.- V Subramanyam more

The 26AS should also contain the column TDS Certificate No. Along with amount deducted / deposited . This will reduce the suffering of Tax Payers while filling the IT returns . The banks who have deducted TDS on FDRs interests have still not issued the certificates . We should keep the column of filling certificate no empty as long as other details tally with the 26AS . more
There should be a system where form 16 should also be part of form 26AS. It should be made compulsory for the agency who deducted TDS to upload the form 16 on income department web sit and income department should integrate it and merge with form 26AS. Then any difference would be seen in form 26AS and the tax payer will not be responsible for any difference and will get correct refund. more
Best solution is to check your 26AS. If the TDS does not appear on this, write a letter to the deductor pointing out his omission. Copy it to the ITO. You may find the deductor running after you. The deductor is levied a big penalty for not paying in the TDS and for not filing a correct return. more
I also endorse that the difference should be the problem between the deductor and the IT web site, why should the IT payee suffer for the faults of the deductor and the IT office maintaining the web site. Can someone write to the PM through his web site. more
I SUPPORT THE VIEWS OF MR. SARDA. WHILE DETAILS OF TDS IS FILLED IN IN THE RETURN, THE INCOME TAX OFFICERS SHOULD CONFIRM WITH THE DEDUCTOR THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FORM 16 /16A AND FORM 26AS. THEY HAVE THE POWERS TO PENALISE FOR NON DEPOSITING THE TDS. more
