Water covers 71% of the Earth's surface though we are talking about WW III for water. I do not say this fear is fake. Unfortunately, this is a reality. Of all the water on Earth, 96.5% is contained within the oceans, while the remaining 2.5% is freshwater lakes and frozen water locked up in glaciers and the polar ice caps – almost 69% of the fresh water on Earth is ice. So, how much do we have for us? Only 2.5% of the Earth's water is freshwater, and 98.8% of that water is in ice and groundwater. Less than 0.3% of all freshwater is in rivers, lakes, and the atmosphere, and an even smaller amount of the Earth's freshwater (0.003%) is contained within biological bodies and manufactured products. Approximately 70% of the fresh water used by humans goes to agriculture. A 2006 United Nations report stated that "there is enough water for everyone", but that access to it is hampered by mismanagement and corruption. http://canadians.org/node/3578 Most of the bottled water sold in India is primarily groundwater that has been treated and purified, almost 90%. Apart from its impact on the water ecology, it has been calculated that globally, bottled water accounts for as many as 1.5 million tons of plastic waste annually, among which only 20% is recycled, thus contributing further to issues in waste management and pollution. A REQUEST: Please avoid purchasing bottled water as far as possible. more
Morar-ji Desai could have stopped that WW-III. more
Rain water harvesting should be made mandatory for all homes. Encourage cultivation of water cleansing plants like ..Canon in around homes. These plants help cleanse water of pollutants. Temples tanks and ponds must be cleansed periodically and people should take pride in contributing to a healthy temple pond and tank. Volunteers must be identified to be trained on how to monitor ground water table by using gadgets and also on how to identify pilferage and illegal theft of ground water by unscrupulous anti social elements who want to make a quick profit. Sand mafia in the river beds are the main source for water problem. As the sand is sucked away by these land mafias we end up with water not flowing its current path smoothly resulting in water shortage and rivers getting dry and ultimately more sand being mined by the sand mafias. Public should be encouraged and taught about the long term danger of this issue. more
Water is going to be scarce commodity.and unlike oil we can't import it even if we can afford.Best way is wiser water management .Only govt can't do everything .Imagine our population at freedom and now.Did govt ask us to increase population four times We need to be miser in spending water too.Merciless use of water like gardening be stopped.Thosr rich & influentials manage to get abundantly and misuse. We should dig more and more ponds & adopt water harvesting more
In Tamilnadu the encroachment of ponds and lakes took were encroached by Dravidian parties - every town has Anna Nagar, KKNagar JJ Nagar in the lakes and ponds the water ways to the ponds were occupied by Commercial complexes NOW the TN is depend only on Ground water available under 200 feet in Dindugal it is 400 feet remedy demolish all buildings and encroachments - Municipalities should be strict more
