Tax on Electricity

Electricity is an essential part of daily life of every one. Consumers may not be aware of very high rate of tax being paid by them.
There are two tax rate levied on electricity:
1. Electricity Duty @ 16% on bill amount.
2. Tax on Sale of electricity @ Rs.0.2604 per Unit (Kwh)
Bill amount consists of:
Energy Charges
Fixed Charges
Fuel Adjustment Charges
Regulatory Asset Charges
Wheeling Charges

We would like to suggest that electricity supply to be brought under GST with a rate of 5% without input tax credit. more

All our successive governments have been only fleecers of middle class who never bother to even raise their voice. Rob paul to pay peter is what the government does now. Multiplicity in taxation.... confusing the consumers in various ways. Even the electricity consumption being charged in slab-wise should also be reconsidered as: 0-300 units - minimum 300 - 500 - Additional charge above the first 300 units (i.e. on the 200 units) 500 - 1000 - Additional charge above the first & 2nd slab 1001 & above - Maximum rate on the differential consumption of 1st, 2nd & 3rd slabs. Only a common PIL could get the poor middle class some sort of relief from all these fleecing by the governments. more
Has GOI given any relief to citizens of India ever? NO. Gives somewhere takes more than from somewhere. more
There should be one single tax like GST and it can be 5%. If you see in Mumbai Adani Electricity bill, there are half a dozen taxes. That has to be studied and curtailed by State Govt/Adani. more
WE must be the highest tax paying country- tax on everything!! more
Government will have to collect revenue from electricity at the present rate only. It is like petrol and diesel prices. They will not reduce taxes. At best they may name differently, but collect the same total amount from each consumer. Let us face the reality and live with it. more
