I think extending the last date of return every year is not a good practice. Of course there are exceptions, like when the software was upgraded at Income Tax Department (CPC) it was necessary. In my case one of the (private) banks in which I have my account, bungled by doing wrong correction and reduced both the interest amount and Tax deducted at source saying those entries were over booked. But in fact it was correct and correctly showed in my Form 16A's down loaded from Traces. But the figures were not matching with my Form 26AS which was also downloaded from Traces. So there was a mistake by the bank also there must be some flaw or bug in Traces software which needs correction. I got the corrected Form 26AS from Traces only on 19th July which was supposed to be correct and up to date by 31st May !!! These are also reasons why one needs extension of last date. more
If every body plans to submit their returns early, there may not be so much rush on the last days. Let us practice filing early and getting refund also early. more
Time has changed. Do not follow old practices. If you are getting refunds in 15 days, you should also puntually file all returns. more
Dear Mr Ronand and others, why we want extension is due to certain exsigencies we are stuck in foreign countries or otherwise.I file my returns through auditor .Before leaving India,in March I asked him for filing my returns but my auditor said I can file by July.due to certain exigencies,we are stuck up abroad.otherwise ppl like me will not have any issue in filing the returns. Further since my serving in Govt and after my retirement, ppl like me are filing return and paying taxes.Sakthidharan more
Why does one expect extension? Ones data collection preparation can start from 1st April by May 15 form 26AS is updated by all deducting agencies. Also for a normal/extended closure one will find highest submissions in last three days. more
