Suo Moto action needed by Legal Metrology
I find that other than active consumers like those on local circles most common people just get subjected to overcharging but never complain to LM dept.
It is high time LM officials get out of this give me receipt and complaint in my format and then I will consider acting. Gone are those day. For 10 rupees overcharging no one will follow your outdated procedures. Instead u need to take suo moto action. Do you every do that? Please share examples. more

In Kolkata shop keepers in my area are taking price of a 500 ml. Metro Diary milk as Rs.21/- but the MRP is Rs.20/-. When I protest about it, they said, every one is taking like this. Can any one help me to get any rules/acts for making charges for silver/gold ornaments & coin. A jeweler, Senco Gold Ltd., charged me 42.50% making charges for a 10 grams silver coin. They have charged 10.60% for gold ornament. My previous post may be referred in this regards. more

Shop keepers know who are working in LM department, for them every one knows what is going to be the treatment, rates charged. Hence they can never get a taste of overcharging. Just after introduction of GST, in pune a hotel (restaurant) situated on Fergusson college road started charging GST over and above the final bill. No LM dept., stepped into the picture to stop this practice, it was only when it came into the FB and mouth to mouth publicity and other social medias, they made base price as what ever was original price including all taxes, service charges etc and added GST. Hence people never got the benefit of GST and these hotel owners made a quick buck for many many days. Mr Rana has mentioned quite right, regarding the working hours actually an employee spends. But this is not the case only with LM, have a look at AG office, railways (except ticket / reservation counter issuing counter clerks / Enquiry / Station staff who looks after the train signaling etc / ), and many other departments under state / central. more
