Solutions for Price Fixing

Dear Friends,

Below are the solutions identified by you to address issues of Price Fixing for products/services.

1. A price monitoring mechanism should be set up and it should be ensure that data is published periodically on it
2. Middle men and commission agents should be completely eradicated
3. Prices of fruits and vegetables should be regulated by the Government
4. Hoarding should be made a legal offence
5. Printing MRP should be stopped – only exact price should be printed
6. Stringent consumer protection laws should be developed
7. Agencies should be developed which can penalize the culprits with a quick turn-around-time
8. Production for the items in high demand should be ramped up
9. New channels should be developed so that farmers can sell their produce directly to the market

If you have anything additional to add with regards to cartelization/collusion leading to price fixing, please do so by responding to this post.

UZHAVAR SANDHAI--Farmer's Markets were in vogue throughout TN--during DMK rule. The next government did not patronize it. But it was a good success--1. Farmers came all the way from their villages for which transport was free. They had a shop allotted and sold veggies to the people for reasonable prices. By noon say by 12 noon they would have sold everything that they brought. Happy, back home. Mostly women came to sell when men tended to their land and cattle. We too enjoyed buying from them. The asbestos roofing served as a shop. more
Exactly, this is what govt should do, provide easily approachable mechanism/centres in all cities where people can get the quality and genuineness of products-services tested. Such centres must also be empowered to initiate immediate legal action against the defaulting RETAILERS - onus should be on retailer to prove that the supplier or manufacturer is responsible and not he or she. more
How to find adulteration in groceries? Is there any labs. where We can send samples for testing in Kerala? more
With the exception of critical life-saving and very essential goods & services, why should govt regulate prices in a free market economy? This also negates the PM's policy of minimum government and maximum governance - in fact the govt should go very strict on ensuring quality of goods & services, should ensure that there is no fake & adulterated product in the market; govt should legislate harsh punishment for such adulterators, as a deterrence. more
