sms charges by ICICI Bank

I have an SB Account with ICICI bank, and got discontinued sms service about 2 years back. Suddenly the bank debited sms charges for current quarter. When I wrote to the bank a to why they again started charging when I got discontinued. There response is really surprising. They have mentiooned that I got my mobile number changed and therefore they have activated the sms facility. Is it the way of charging a customer for a service which he never opted. RBI should look into such malpractices of the bank and direct the bank to charge only for the services , which customer has asked in writing (or in other ways). more

I agree with Shri R P Gupta ji's suggestion. I also reiterate that it is in our own interest to link the sb account to a mobile so that we get alerts about any fraudulent transactions. The amount deducted is just Rupees 15 + ST per quarter, which works out to less than 6 rupees a month. It is a very small amount to pay for our own peace of mind. I, for one, would not like to lose this facility offered by the bank. more
I think, before going to consumer forum, one has to first write to Bank with acknowledgement and if no answer one reminder to give than go Banker's ombsdum. more
i hope, raising complaints may not help us as its RBI defined rules and each and every bank had fallows the same. but there is a rule that if you maintain some particular amount which is defined by bank at least a day in over all the quarter, then there would not be a sms charges for it. we can give/raise a request to remove this sms charges over all behalf of well maintained customers. more
One can lodge the Complaint with Dist. Consumer forum - a bit time and effort consuming but definite results. more
