RBI - APPEAL REPRESENTATION
Date: Sat, Jan 28, 2017 at 7:20 PM
Subject: NRI CLARIFICATION Please rReview
To: RBI -Central Board, Reserve Bank of India, Secretary’s Department, Central Office Building, 16th Floor, Shahid Bhagat Singh Marg, Mumbai – 400 001.
My wife & I have booked flight tickets 2 weeks ago to come to Mumbai on 1st Feb to surrender my old notes to RBI.
For years we are classified only as NRI
(Even knowing that we held Overseas Passport/citizen, as our birth/roots were from India).
Banks- Even till today our accounts are NRE/NRO.
Also Customs, Tax Office, Indian Embassy & India Govt depts say we are NRI.
We were told to obtain PIO then OCI cards- we did all this on face value & trust.
The definition told to us was that so long as we were born in India or have family members of India birth - we were classified as NRIs.
There was no other classification for years.
***So why punish us now and that too for a small amount of Rs25,000 per person (& one time deposit).
There is not profit for black market in this is really too small (hardly cover airfare cost).
