ANIMALS COULD BE USEFUL FOR HUMAN WELLNESS AND SOCIAL SECURITY (INCLUDING EMOTIONAL SECURITY).Though Animals could be useful for human wellness especially for children achieving social security through animals can be complex. If the possibility of emotional stress on animals is not considered, it can lead to other complications. Here the role of veterinary ethologist (specialists who study animal behavior vis-à-vis human behavior) becomes important. The monitoring the behavior of Man and animals would be important for STRATEGY PLANNING for a timely correction. It is desirable to study some of the available data on the child’s stress (both the dynamics and threshold). Tests have proved beyond doubt that interactions (petting, caressing and hugging) are mutual and that animals experience the same psychological benefits during the process. It was testified from the secretion of Neuro-chemicals like β endorphin, oxytocin, prolactin seen in the blood of both man and dogs after positive interspecies interaction. [But it must be added here that interspecies interactions as aforementioned is useful (or usable) only in cases where an individual (child or its family) is comfortable with a particular animal species. Maintaining domestic animals and pets in schools may be useful to an extent. more
I read your posting and feel concerned; but I think it is fruitless and often dangerous to persue child rape in isolation. There are a number of interlinked causes that culminate in exposing a child to a heneous crime like rape. I discuss one of them. As soon as young child returns from school, it is eager to narrate whatever happened in the school to the parent and get a hug from them (parent or grandparent). This action helps the poor child to get over the regimented monotony in school. Care seeking is natural in all young ones (man or animal). Where the parents have opted for a school far away from home (or are forced to do so), hours of non-productive bus travel through congested roads adds to a child’s woes. In the fast changing life-style where both parents pursue career, Children sent to “far aaway schools” or ”hostels to live alone” are deprived of timely care stress relief and mentoring from the family. They are also deprived of communication with local communityand local environment. On return from school they lose the opportunity to play games and relax (during the cool hours of the day ie evening). They gradually develop an attitude of relating, helplessness, cynicism and other primary symptoms of depression. At this juncture a kind word or a show of affection (care giving or Epimeletic behavior) from a stranger may give the child the relief it badly need. Busy parents who focus on their children’s scholastic excellence need be appraised of the gravity of the emotional problems and of their unrealistic aspirations. Tired out of work followed by travel, many parents too are not in a frame of mind to address rationally the emotional needs of their children. Reports on drug sales in school premises (especially urban ones) is an indication that drug dealers are ahead of administration or parents to recognize the vulnerability of juvenile and exploit the contact gap between them and parents. This calls for a priority in establishing/ strengthening local schools. On precipitation of a problem many parents tend blame it on the teachers or school mangement. Vulnerable children may fall into the trap of any person pretending to be a sypathiser, exploit them or sell them “drugs”. ONSET OF PUBERTY IS CRITICAL IN THE EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF A CHILD. In the changing life-style onset of puberty occurs at ages between 10 and 14 in girls and between 12 and 16 in boys. Nutrition and enriched environment reduces age of puberty. Average age of the onset of menstrual periods in girls was 15 before 1900. By the 1990s, this dropped to 12 ½ years (ranging from 9 to 14). Use of drugs to counter depression and isolation may lead to addiction in the vulnerable minds and in extreme cases even to suicide. more
there should be a concerted effort to change the attitude of the society to respect women and to create a feeling among women that they are in no way weak. more
