sir, your article on the fruit was an eye opener,so far I have been telling my rural poor and anemic patients, not to buy the expensive fruit, drink milk instead, may be this is food for a rich person or may be Not, as the poor people like to spend money on tonics, now they will have a choice, tonics or pomegranates ! more

I fully agree with JK Jain that enough studies have not been done on Pomegranate.
I am still taking Pomegranate for the last more than six months as a fruit and took the warm concotion of its seeds for than 3 months? I had read in some Pakistan journal that the concotion of the seeds of Pomegranate after boiling when taken on empty stomach early morning uncloggs the heart arteries. So I bought 1 kg of seeds from the market and started making/taking the concotion. I tried for 3 months this very very khata concotion but it did not unclog my arteries. So I gave it up after 3 months but still I am taking once a day in the evening Pomegranate as fruit which I suppose it will help me some day. But it has not opened my arteries at all till now . Therefore, I can conclude with certainity that Pomegranate does open Heart Arteries at all. This concotion also disturbs your ph factor as it acidic.

What is the point of reducing stress in CHD when 3 arteries are 100% clogged. I doubt that claim of the study also as I often get frequent angina -three times a day even now after I am regular eater of Pomegranate? more
The American Journal of Cardiology
Effects of Pomegranate Juice Consumption on Myocardial Perfusion in Patients With Coronary Heart Disease:

Pomegranate juice contains antioxidants such as soluble polyphenols, tannins, and anthocyanins and may have antiatherosclerotic properties. However, no study has investigated the effects of pomegranate juice on patients who have ischemic coronary heart disease (CHD). We investigated whether daily consumption of pomegranate juice for 3 months would affect myocardial perfusion in 45 patients who had CHD and myocardial ischemia in a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind study. Patients were randomly assigned into 1 of 2 groups: a pomegranate juice group (240 ml/day) or a placebo group that drank a beverage of similar caloric content, amount, flavor, and color. Participants underwent electrocardiographic-gated myocardial perfusion single-photon emission computed tomographic technetium-99m tetrofosmin scintigraphy at rest and during stress at baseline and 3 months. Visual scoring of images using standardized segmentation and nomenclature (17 segments, scale 0 to 4) was performed by a blinded independent nuclear cardiologist. To assess the amount of inducible ischemia, the summed difference score (SDS) was calculated by subtracting the summed score at rest from the summed stress score. The experimental and control groups showed similar levels of stress-induced ischemia (SDS) at baseline (p >0.05). After 3 months, the extent of stress-induced ischemia decreased in the pomegranate group (SDS −0.8 ± 2.7) but increased in the control group (SDS 1.2 ± 3.1, p <0.05). This benefit was observed without changes in cardiac medications, blood sugar, hemoglobin A1c, weight, or blood pressure in either group. In conclusion, daily consumption of pomegranate juice may improve stress-induced myocardial ischemia in patients who have CHD more
The point raised by Suchet Singh Yadav is very valid. There is no authentic study on the benefits of Pomegranate juice for heart especially opening arteries. more
Pomegranate does not cure dengue and does not give extra energy nor does it recovery in any heart ailments. It is wrong notion that the Pomegranate opens clogged heart arteries. It is just a fruit and it does not have advantages over milk. While Milk is whole some diet is considered better than Pomegranate. Milk does not increase heart cholesterol and is considered as good for the over all health. It is most appropriate for the poor people to have a glass of milk rather than the Pomegranate that is what I cnsider it . If you have doubt my version, you may still consult some Hospital dietician. Why do the Doctor recommends breast feeding of child is because the mother's milk in itself is whole some diet? more
