Need Guidance

Income Tax had raised an outstanding demand against filings in 2009-10 and over 5 years they kept adjusting refund against that demand. Finally that demand was proven invalid. How do we get paid that amount back in this year's filing plus the interest of these refund amounts for 5 years.

Please guide me. I think I saw some other member facing similar issue but couldnt find the post.

As per IT act any demand adjusted against subsequent assessment year the same should be protested in writing . since the nature of demand is not known it is difficult to analyse .Also if the concerned ITO is not agreeable for withdrawal of demand an appeal can lie against department for recovery of erroneous adjustment .If the demand is vacated then show same to department more
If the tax is paid online and if details there show those details, then it should not be difficult at all. more
