Mr Finance Minister…. If you please….!

Recently, the government wanted Aadhar number to be linked to PAN card while filing Income Tax returns, but the Hon’ble court denied it.
So now, you want each bank account to be linked to Aadhar card, and the purpose is crystal clear.

Instead, would it not be proper, to make the current PAN cards valid only till 31st Mar 2018, and a new set of PAN cards released for FY 2018-19 onwards?

Something like the demonetization for currency notes, now to be tried for PAN cards?

Because PAN cards are linked to Income Tax filing, which also have information about the email addresses and Mobile numbers of the Tax payer, a link could be provided on the email for filing application for new PAN card. The Tax payer has only to fill the form available that’s all.

But this form should have the Aadhar number mandatory, along with postal & email addresses and mobile phone numbers.

If a Tax Payer has already linked the PAN with Aadhar, and there is no change of address, then a fresh PAN card from new series could be sent to his postal address without any delay, so the Tax payer does not face any kind of hardship.

The application received for fresh PAN card from new series, can also be sent to those PAN holders, whose postal & email address is already available along with mobile phone numbers, and there is no change for the same in the online form filled, then the department can link the Aadhar number, now available through the application received for fresh PAN card from new series.

Only those people shall face the problem, where PAN card cannot be linked to Aadhar card for obvious reasons, and the department can take up investigation for such cases, at a later date.

MOST Important here is that, the New series PAN card must be available without any problem and harassment to those who have already linked their Aadhar card with PAN card or submit the details of Aadhar card through online application.

Meanwhile, I understand that my suggestion “PSU Banks & Their Capital Requirements” made in this column on 10th Aug 2016, is being considered positively and all PSU banks are being clubbed together to form FIVE PSU banks along with the names suggested for those five banks by me, in that message.
Thank you sir. more

To make common men life easier, Govt should make arrangements to establish centres, just like Banks to enrol and issue Aadhar card or PAN card. more
There are centers every where to apply and get your aadhar card. It is so simple, you have to just find out the center nearest to you, dont think that some body should come to your door and give you the card more
All agencies who require identity, should have iris / finger print scanners compulsorily. A person desirous of availing say SIM card or bank account, should only present himself there and get iris / finger print. Rest should be done by the data base servers and fill the complete details (on manual filling of details by person or bank etc) for further processing by banks etc. more
We have to get all these cards as per their valid functions. Then we need all sorts of cards of all kinds of humanly possible functions. Once the Supreme Court has ordered against the linkage of aadhar card to pan card, then can government overstep that decision for the purpose of its own credibility. GOI should respect SC decisions & that''s it. SC decision is final in conducting democracy . If not then , democracy is respecting laws & judiciary in the country. This is "what" happening in India. more
Govt is following SC order strictly. If you please read the SC order, they have not allowed it from 1 June as proposed initially by the Govt. They have allowed from 1 July . It is wondering to me why people are afraid from linking aadhar card with their PAN card on IT site?? more
SC has upheld the law for linkage of PAN with Aadhar more
with all good wishes to my learned friends, experiences differ. when i had applied for pan card some 30 years back all my colleagues frightened me that if pan card is there i have to pay tax. yes i was paying tax. We are not afraid to provide adhar card , but the people of this country have the right to know why adhar is to be linked to every thing, like opening bank account, showing the card if the transaction is more than 50k, pan card linking, mobile phone linking, etc., Let the government notify the reason instead of making us to guess. Yes we want to transact with cash, It is not America, most of the retail shops have to swiping machines, if you swipe in petrol bunk i have to pay 2.5% tax why should I pay when i know that this money will go to America. Transacting with cash does not mean that i am corrupt . First let the system be made full proof. every where cheating, cheating , cheating. Government knows but not doing any thing. Will it be the same in America more
It is very simple Kalaga ji, it is a unique identification system which is followed in every country. I think, it is just the first step to carry only one card for all your identity. In every country, for opening a bank account, you need your citizen ship card, or residency card, which is used for all tax filing purposes etc.
PAN card is created for tax payers only. While aadhar is must for every citizen, PAN card only for tax payers and both should be linked since as you know in our country, people are very intelligent and have multiple cards in the same name to evade taxes.

Voters card is needed for those who are eligible to vote
Driving license card is needed for driving purpose

and with every other card, aadhar should be linked to prevent illegal activities prevailing in the country. more
I feel that only Aadhar Number should be used for filling IT Return and PAN Number should be phased out. The persons who do not have Aadhar Card should be asked to get one by 31 March 2018. more
Only aadhar should be used and it should be verified again for all diligently to prevent duplicate aadhar cards for the same person. more
True. Govt wanted this to hapen by 30th June 2017, which has been rejected by Hon'ble Supreme court. Now govt cannot risk it again for a dead line of 31st March 2017.
Ideally, govt should opt for KYC of PAN cards through 'In Person Verification of PAN cards'
